Never use slang when talking to any Marine

Something I've learned from being the RSS guide is that you call every Marine, no matter what the rank or any other factor, call them by their full name Staff Sergeant Milburn, Sergeant Madrid, Gunny Rivera and so on.....

    Exclamation Good Advice TFerg78

It is good protocal to address a Marine by his/her full rank and name as you stated. Only when given permission or directed by the individual is it acceptable to use the other forms or abbreviated ranks. For instance, Gunnery Sergeant = Gunny, Master Sergeant = Top. Be warned, you never abbreviate Staff Sergeant as "Staff" and don't make the mistake of calling a Master Gunnery Sergeant "Top," a Sergeant Major, "Smaj" or a First Sergeant anything other than First Sergeant. Of course, if you make a mistake, someone will undoubtedly correct you immediately.
