    MOS Question: "Combat Support?"

Hi there.. My brother is well into boot camp now.. He said the MOS that he chose was "COMBAT SUPPORT"

I can't find combat support in the list of MOS.. Could someone please explain what it is?

He said he chose "combat support" because he wanted to be a tank commander like our Grandfather was.

    Thank You

Thanks for the links. What does this have to do with tanks?

Well instead of posting ? marks I actually went and googled, "United States Marine Corps Combat Support" and that was the closest match, so unless you have a better MOS that closely matches it then that's your winner.

Not being a Marine, if that is not correct I apologize.

Hey thanks for the reply, but I've already searched google, and already searched the forums, and already spoke with recruiters. I am confused because combat support does not have a mos number in the list. I recall searching the forums before, and finding a post where a guy said his mos was "Combat support" and then people replied to that post, saying that he was "open contract" and that he needed to get things straightended out.

THe only thing the recruiters tell me is that combat support are the guys operating tanks, amphibious assault vehicles, or artillery, and that he wont know what he gets out of those until later.

My brother signed up for 4 years. I am trying to get a better understanding of where he is going.

    Thanks

Why don't you just ask him what the MOS # is sweetie? Combat support could be a plethera of stuff or it may just be his version of saying he's a tank mechanic.

But, wait a minute - he's still in bootcamp? Technically HE won't know what he's getting into until he gets that first set of orders in bootcamp. It may turn out he won't find out til later because I think they go through another "mini" version (MCT I think they call it) of bootcamp AFTER bootcamp. So he may not know for sure himself until after that training period.

LCpl it is MCT, it stands for Marine Combat Training. You probably already knew that though.

Yeah - I heard about it. When I went through, there was none of that after bootcamp - you either went to your MOS school or straight to your unit and did 6 months OJT.

At least I went to school - these Vietnam Vets in here went straight from bootcamp to Vietnam - they had to go through the "school of hard knocks" and that was it.

I don't know for sure, but I've read that Combat Service Support, and Combat Support, are 2 different things. My contract is also Combat Support and I am also wondering what it is. My friend has told be it is basically a broad range of infantry and artillery related jobs.
