I respect everyones response But bottom line is I'll be in Iraq..I got a ship date..Im preparing psyically and mentally...And Im going to be a 0311 Infantry Riflemen because I only got a 40 on My asvab..I thought this was a poole section ment to ask questions.
But Alot of the response were 100% right.I just hear people bring Xboxes,Ipods,porn, Computers and all that

droo, you will have plenty of time to concentrate on your music in your time off. I too am a musician and was pleased to find that there were plenty of other musicians or people interested in music in my platoons. I too think about deployment a lot and wonder if despite the patrols etc if i will have time to be creative in my down time. I would like to write a few more songs and maybe write a journal about my experiences if any that i see over there. If you are going to be 0300 then you sure should think about Iraq. You would be foolish not to.

Thank your Cpl Brooks I understand how people could think im foolish for asking that But basically I was just asking if people could bring Xbox,ect could I bring something thats really relevant. Remember Guys im just a Poolee I got lotta of knowledge from my Marine Friends

I am not sure what we can bring either but i am pretty sure it will fall within the category of whatever fits in your pack and sea bag. I plan on bringing whatever i can get away with that will fill down time. I hear that there is a lot of down time and that it can be boring. That is the only thing that i am worried about is passing the down time other than sleeping. An Xbox would be nice. I have been told that most Marines over there have Ipod and portable DVD players.

not too sure about 0300 Marines, but I have a cousin in the Army, who is a mechanic over in Iraq and we sent a dvd player and an xbox over, w/ games and movies...

When we went pretty much everyone took electronics. Some guy brought his playstation , I and a bunch of others brought our laptops. Its not like you had lots and lots of time on our hands. Plus we were at the FOB. Going on a patrol, or convoy or some other op , we didnt bring sh*t. That crap only stayed at the FOB. We were also stationed up on some bridges for weeks at a time. Then some Marines brought books and stuff like that but nothing too major. The reason why you bring it is simple. On your downtime , when your at the FOB yes you do have to chill out a little. Going on patrol , convoys, standing guard that **** wears your mind out. but like its been said , not when out in the ville.

I am totally shocked. You aren't even in the boot camp yet, much less a Marine, and you are worried about what you can take with you on deployment!!!!

You have better things to think about right now, such as making sure you are in the right frame of mind and body to enter and complete boot camp and any other initial training you may receive. Remember not everyone makes it through bootcamp and one of those numbers could well be you!!!

Once you have completed training and are finally assigned to a unit, then, and only then, might you think about what you might want to bring with you on a deployment. At that point you will be able to talk with those who have been there, done that, got the hat, and they can tell you what is practical and what is not.

This forum is to help you get ready for bootcamp, not to tell you what you need beyond that. Keep the cart BEHIND the freaking a$$, not in front of it.

You say you respect the responses. I mentioned not putting the cart before the horse. Others have now as well. You may make it through boot. You may be 0311. *May.* Because you haven't shipped yet. You haven't been to an MCRD yet. You haven't stood on the yellow footprints. You haven't earned the Eagle, Globe and Anchor yet. You have not yet earned the title of Marine.

Sure. You might be allowed to take computers and gadgets to where ever you end up at. If you do make it through boot and end up with a unit then you will be limited in what you can take. You only get so much room to pack X amount of junk. As well as those in command may or may not allow any or certain electronics.

Some of us aren't saying what you want to hear. Some of us are just trying to help you with your priorities. What if you go through boot, get deployed to Iraq or somewhere else and are told that under no conditions can you have any computers or recording equipment? Would you be happy or content to just have a deck of cards and maybe a book? Would you be happy putting those other interests on hold? And all that is a non issue at this point either way. Because you have to make it through boot first.

Haha basically the bottom line here is that most people here get really mad over things so if it seems that the question could even remotely taken as a dumb question just don't ask people here. Ask your recruiter he'll let you know and won't make you feel like an idiot. But you did get a few normal answers to your response.

All of you poolees should be asking questions beyond boot camp. Remember, boot camp is only your first three months in the Corps. You still have another 3 and a half years after that which you should know about and naturally be curious about.

Thank you, someone who understands. Us Poolees are constantly thinking about boot camp and being nervous/preparing for it and stuff. But the whole reason we're ready to go through it is because we're excited for what it's preparing us for. If we didn't ask questions about what could happen after boot camp, we wouldn't have something to look forward too.
