The wife of a retired Marine Corps pilot and the mother of two Marine captains, Jude Campbell long ago got used to the idea of seeing the men she loves deploy.
Tears nevertheless welled Sunday as she watched her son, forward air controller Capt. Tom Campbell, board the amphibious assault ship Bataan as it prepared to leave for what many aboard believe will be a major combat deployment.

My sons have always been very manly and strong, and we are extremely proud of them,'' said Campbell, who with her husband drove from their home in Charlottesville to Norfolk to give their eldest a quick goodbye.
