MARINE CORPS LOGISTICS BASE ALBANY, Ga.(Sept. 3, 2006) -- Every kid has fantasies.

You see them playing war, or wrestling out in the yard. Sometimes they grow up never letting go of those fantasies – becoming Marines or wrestlers. And some of them get to do both.

During a recent visit to Albany, superstars from World Wrestling Entertainment hosted a small group of Marines from Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany for a meet and greet before the show.

“The WWE was here for a normal house show, but they’re also promoting the upcoming movie, ‘The Marine,’ which stars wrestler John Cena,” said Capt. Steve Butler, Public Affairs officer, MCLB Albany. “Headquarters Marine Corps thought it would be great if some local Marines could get to go to the show.”

Not only did some Marines get to go, they were brought backstage briefly to meet John Cena, and got to meet wrestlers Triple H and the legendary Ric Flair as well. The wrestlers signed autographs and posed for pictures with the Marines.

“Sometimes, when you meet big stars, you expect them to act above you, but these wrestlers were very down to earth,” said Gunnery Sgt. Edward Compton, operations chief, Provost Marshal’s Office here. “They seemed very appreciative of us and thanked us for what we do. That makes the job worthwhile.”

After meeting the wrestlers, the Marines settled in for the show with matches featuring Jeff Hardy, Johnny Nitro, Kane, Degeneration X, WWE champion Edge and, of course, Cena.

Cena’s upcoming film, “The Marine,” is scheduled to open in theaters nationwide Oct. 13.

“I’ve already seen the trailer and passed the word out to everyone,” Compton said. “Come Oct. 13, I’ll be standing in line.”
