Question Can they guarantee you a MOS these days?

    Hello,
I have read the rules and tried to update my profile as much as I can.
Before I post my questions I would like to tell you a little I did and
searched when I was about to enlist many years ago.

Because I came from a foreign country and finishing HS and thought about
going to the Armed Forces I did not score too well on the ASVAB due to
some language issues but that was before... well studied in college.

Back in the early 90s the scary part for me was that if I enlist and
try to get into communication or computers I might end up a mechanic.

After you test, verify work history, some college units, (2 years)
not finished because I intended to transfer, get a decent score on the
ASVAB, can they say... you can choose any of the following MOS and
after boot camp you are going to do what the recruiter signed you up for?

I have always looked for civilian/on base jobs around California and
and even out of state but that is hard to grab. I also wished I would've
enlisted back then and now I would've been working with DynCorp or BlackWater.

Cannot do that yet because I haven't been shot at, I haven't shot anyone
per say so I guess the Armed Forces or Law Enforcement would be the only
    work experience these people need.

My civilian skills are in Computers/Technical and Administrative, I've
also got into Finance and Banking. Since about a year ago because I've
moved to the nice state of Idaho, I've grown to like rifles, tactical
    guns and many more.

I think this question could be for any branch not just the Marines.
This would've been good because I was not too far from Camp. Pendleton, CA
but here, now, I'm very close to an Air Force base. I already applied
via the web and they denied me. Might have been my age? (28).

You aren't guaranteed anything except for 3 hots and a cot, free medical, free dental, free travel around the world.

You'll be guaranteed a "field" - that field could break down into a kazillion different "jobs".

You are also guaranteed to go to the best places in the world - at the worse possible time to go there - i.e. scenic Norway, in the middle of the winter when they have 200 feet of snow and all you can see is white!

I guess not, I do not know where I herd it. But if a recruiter reads this
would you not think if they do offer you a field job per say, if you scored
low or barely passed your ASVAB you're most likely a grub and if you scored
high you have a choice of 2-3 field jobs.

They can almost gurantee you a job field, but there are possible reasons that could lead to you not getting what you selected, although those are rare in any case other than you not passing your MOS school.

But, you select a job field, not an MOS. That means that you select to go into communications, not to be a multi-channel radio operator. Or you select to go into electronics repair, not ground radio repair. The Marine Corps will then place you in the MOS that fits your abilities and their needs.

    Anything is possible.

You could even ace the ASVAB and STILL be a grub if the Corps needs grubs worse than anything else.

I am glad you asked, first of all what country are you from, is it hostile or a friendly. Are you a citizen or are you a resident alien (green card, ie. 151 or 551, I-94). When you tried to enlist way back when did you have any moral, police, drug, or medical issues. All of these things affect any guarantee, not being a citizen limits you even more, even though you can still be in the best MOS in the Corps, (0311-Infantry-grunt). Moral, Police, and drug use also put limitations on your MOS, most likely you wont pass for a clearance so Aviation, Electronics, Intel, and computers are a no-go. None of this matters to most especially after boot camp, I about just being a Marine, and the family around you. You said the Air Farce wouldnt take you now because of your age, believe me its BS, there has to be another reason. The Air Farce can go into the 30s because of there non phyical nature and co-ed training. The Marine Corps overall is the hardest branch to join, its the combination of the whole person concept. If you have further questions, I am usually availible.

    Good Luck

If that's relevent to anything! I found most recruiters are trying push paperwork from what I hear Recruiters have one of the more stressful jobs and when I came in I quallfied for a list of M.O.S's and I picked.
