    Talking Close Order Drill

    Tell me Bones:
Did I step on my d*ck with 1 foot (or both) on this one?

  2. #17
Naw! Hell, you know wingers got no time fer drill! We're workin all time! We ain't got time fer playin around like that!

Had the CIC FMFPAC drop by once, we threw somethin' together fer a squadron formation for him on the flight line and he said he was impressed...we didn't tell him that that right oblique was a screw up, but he was impressed! LOL.

    Lightbulb Close Order Drill

Thought I'd give it a shot. I approached it from a practical standpoint (get these 2 Marines back on the road). Hope FIRST SGT MIKE will enlighten me on this one without chewing my *ss too badly.
Last time I drilled was at a Change of Command (Base CG) at 29 Palms. Simple enough marching the Marines to the "General's Lawn", more difficult keeping some of them on their feet.

    lurchenstein,

    Don't be so sensitive.

Your answer is correct, and the only one I know of.

I've heard that question asked about ten times, and watched people struggle for an answer.

I've only asked it myself one time before. It was to eight army recruters who worked out of an office down the hall from mine.

When I left, they were arguing amongst themselves. My only regret was that I didn't get it down on tape. It would have been good competition for "Who's on first, What's on second, and I Don't Know is at third."

I finally took pity on them and sent a poolee down to give them the answer.
    -----------------------------
I don't know if you'll remember the recruiting slogan but...

The air force recruiter was being visited by his Commanding General, and two or three other heavyweights. His office was small, and he sat behind a desk facing the open door. Visitors were seated with their backs to the wall.

He wasn't looking too happy as I passed by, and I felt perhaps a joke would cheer him up. I stood in the doorway, looking at him and ignoring the presence of his visitors.

"Tom, I had the spookiest, scariest, weirdest nightmare I've ever had in my life last night, I'm still shaking from it."

"What was it?" "I dreamt I woke up and found myself in the air force." "What a nightmare!"

    And I left.
    ------------------------

I guess I spend hald my time reliving old memories, and the other half creating new ones.

    Semper Fi

Agreed & thanks FIRST SGT MIKE. My first instinct is to over analyze situations. Then a little sense creeps in and reminds me to "keep it simple". Sometimes I don't trust my memory on events from 20+ years ago. (I'm open to correction.)
Semper Fidelis & Best Regards to you!

    Left Right your Left
    Lefty Right your Left
    Lefty Right your Left.
I left the sky in the middle of the night
I hit the deck and I'm ready to fight.
A grease gun and Kabar by my side
These are the tools that make men die.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Hail, hail, infantry
    Queen of battles, follow me
Marine Corps life is the life for me
Cause nothing in this life is free.
Here I lie in this foreign land
    Bleeding on this foreign sand
    Ground around me turning red
By the time they find me, I'll be dead.

    Hail, hail, infantry
    Queen of battles, follow me
Marine Corps life is the life for me
Cause nothing in this life is free.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the middle of the night in the drizzle and rain,
I packed my chute and I ran to the plane.
Mission top secret there's a mission unknown,
We don't know if we're ever comin' home.
Stand up buckled up shuffled to the door,
Jumped right out and shout MARINE CORPS!
If my chute don't open wide.
I've got another one by my side.
If that chute don't open round.
I'll be the first one on the ground.
    Orraaahhh!
    Blood and Guts
    Orraaahhh!
    Thats all right
    Blood and Guts
    Every where
    Orraaahhh!

Tell my mama not to cry
In the Marine Corps you will do or die.
Pin my wings upon my chest
Tell my girl I've done my best.
Place a Kabar in my hand.
I'll fight my way to the promised land.
    Orraaahhh!
    Blood and Guts
    Everywhere
    That's us
    That's us
    Lean and mean
    US Marine
    Orraaahhh!
    Orraaahhh!

    Joinin' the Corps
    Left, left, left right left,
Ohh your left, left, your left 'cha right ya left 'cha right 'cha left.
All I know is what I'm told.
The Marine Corp. makes me Tough and Bold.

Ohhh, kissed my mama at the door.
Told her I was joinin' the Corps.
Got there at a quarter 'till four,
And I was pushin' on the floor.

    Ohhh sound off, 1 2,
    Sound off, 3 4,
    1 2 3 4, UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS!

Oh, We PT all day long and run all night.
We're the only ones who really fight.
Full of pride and Marine might.
    I've grown up just right.

So I say left, right, LEFT, RIGHT!
Left, left, 'cha left 'cha right 'cha left.

Now everywhere I go I sing this song,
Or I'll be pushin' all day long.
Now there's just one more thing to say,
When you're with the Corps you're there to stay!

    Oh sound off, 1 2,
    Sound off, 3 4,
    1 2 3 4 UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS!

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Test
Marine Corps Boot Camps are the best!
They will put you to the test.

And then when you are finally done,
    You will be number one.

If you cant make it don’t you cry,
The Marine Corps motto is Semper Fi!

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    We're the Proud
We're the Few, We're the Proud
We're the Few, We're the Proud,
We're the ones who are so LOUD.

We're the best of the best,
For in War Time We don't rest.

We are taught how to KILL,
We have the best of every skill.

We will FIGHT for what is right,
During both the day and night.

We will fight to keep freedom FREE,
Whether or not it is for me.

We FIGHT for our Country like she's our queen,
That's why We are titled MARINE!

    Want to be a Marine
    Army, Navy wasn't for me.
The Air Force is just to easy.
I need a life that is hardcore.
So I joined the Marine Corps.
They sent me to an island with to much sand.
Parris Island where it all began.
But I can't forget about the hood.
San Diego and it's all so good.

    First phase broke me down.
Second phase I was still around.
Third phase I was lean and mean,
Because I am a United States Marine.

If those of you who ask me why,
Here's to you and here's my reply.
I'll always be a Marine till the day I die.
    ORRRAH MOTIVATED and SEMPER FI!

    Exclamation Cadence Time!!!

SOUND OFF WITH YOUR FAVORITE CADENCE!

    Mine:

    The prettiest girl,
    I ever saw,
    Was sippin burban,
    Through a straw,

    I picked her up,
    I layed her down,
    Her long black hair,
    Lay all around,

    And now I have,
    A mother-in-law,
    And fourtreen kids,
    Who call me pa,

    The moral of,
    The story is clear,
    INSTEAD OF BURBAN,
    STICK TO BEER.

I have way too many cadences that get me over the fatigue while running to post just one. So I'll post a few of the ones I like most.
Hope these motivate you while double timing.

Some from the movie Full Metal Jacket

I don't want no teenage queen
    I just want my M14
If I die in the combat zone
Box me up and ship me home
Pin my medals upon my chest
Tell my mom I've done my best

Mamma and Pappa were lyin' in bed
Mamma rolled over this is what she said
    Now gimme some
    Now gimme some!
    PT!
    PT!
    Good for you
    And good for me
Up in the morning to the risin' sun
Gonna run all day, til' the running's done
    Ho-Chi-Minh is a son of a ***** (Ho-Chi-Minh can be substituted for Osama bin-Laden)
Got the blue balls crabs and the seven year itch
I love workin' for Uncle Sam
Lets me know just who I am
One, two, three, four, United States Marine Corps
One, two, three, four, I love the Marine Corps
    My Corps
    Your Corps
    Our Corps
    Marine Corps!

I dont know but I've been told
    Eskimo pussy is mighty cold
    Mmm good
    Feels good
    Is good
    Real good
    Tastes good
    Mighty good
    Good for me
    And good for you
    ----------------------

Some other's I've found on the net

    PT, PT, PT, COUNT
    MILE ONE, JUST FOR FUN
    MILE TWO, GOOD FOR YOU
    MILE THREE, GOOD FOR ME
MILE FOUR, LET'S RUN SOME MORE
    MILE FIVE, I FEEL ALIVE
    MILE SIX, THAT'S THE TRICK
    MILE SEVEN, I'M IN HEAVEN
    MILE EIGHT, THIS FEELS GREAT
    MILE NINE, I'M FEELING FINE
    MILE TEN, LET'S RUN AGAIN

    C-130 going down the strip
blew a tire and the mutha ****a flipped
Well the C-130 ain't flying today
    Air Force pilot went UA
    Mission top secret destination unknown
so his sorry ass just stayed at home
The Colonel had a mission that he had to complete
So he reached for the phone down at his feet
He thought just a second then he said "What the Heck"
    dialed 1-800-LEATHER NECK

You can keep your Army khaki,
You can keep your Navy blue,
I have the World's best fighting man,
    To introduce to you
    His uniform is different,
    The best you've ever seen,
The Germans called him "Devil Dog"
    His real name is "Marine."
He was born on Parris Island,
    The place where God forgot.
The sand is eighteen inches deep,
    The sun is blazing hot.
    He gets up every morning,
    Before the rising sun.
He'll run a hundred miles and more,
    Before the day is done.
    He's deadly with a rifle,
    A bayonet made of steel.
He took the Warrior's calling card,
    He's mastered how to kill.
And when he gets to Heaven,
    St. Peter he will tell,
    One more Marine reporting, sir,
I've spent my time in Hell.
So listen, all you young girls,
    To what I have to say;
Go find yourself a young Marine,
    To love you everyday.
He'll hug you and he'll kiss you,
And treat you like a queen,
There is no better Fighting Man,
    The United States Marine

One day I came out my momma's womb
I found myself in a delivery room.
All bloody and wet I rappeled to the floor
I cut the cord and shout, "MARINE CORPS".
I knew right then I was a baby Marine
The meanest little cuss you ever had seen.
Two saftey pins on my shoulders for rank
A Humvee stroller and a tricycle tank.
I had camoflage diapers and flak baby shoes
A butternut sword and baby Dress Blues.
So, I donned my Blues and I cruised through the ward
Saluting all the nurses with my butternut sword.
Then I heard all these babies crying like heck
I kicked in the hatch and yelled, "ATTENTION ON DECK"
I said, "Listen up babies, I'm in command
Crying and wimpering I will not stand"
They said, "Aye Aye, Sir" and I knew I had it made
As Commander-in-Chief of the Baby Brigade.

Hope you enjow these. If anyone is interested in sharing more cadences Email or AIM me whenever. I hope to see your cadences being posted soon . Stay Motivated

    -Moose
