    If the shoe fits....

I'm not exactly sure where I'm going with this. So, if Shaffer deletes this whole post, its his website, he wins or he loses, he picks and he chooses. And if I'm out of line .....

I think this is the BEST website for Marines that I have found. (My apologies to gunnyg.) I am NOT involved in this site in any way, other than as an appreciative visitor/viewer/poster.

There are things that bother me, not with the website, but with the visitors. There are 3,500 of us who searched, found, and chose to identify ourselves. (log- in)

Personally, I cannot understand why anyone who identifies himself as a Marine would not visit this site, whatever the time frame, on a regular basis, to keep up with His fellow Marines and His Marine Corps, and what is happening to and in his Corps.

If you have know of a better website for this, PLEASE, tell me. I'm not under contract, I get NOTHING extra for being here. Show me a better place, and color me “gone”.

(Does anyone remember the “color me” reference?)

Now, I have a problem. Except for a select few, viewers have nothing to say. “I like that.” “I agree.” “ I disagree:” “I have a different opinion about that.” “You're right”. You're wrong.” “You 're fulla ****.” Whatever.

I have a hard time believing that of 3,500 Marines who have been here, 3,357 have had nothing more to say than “Duh?”.

I may be getting old, but if that is what MY Marine Corps has come to, color me “gone”.
And I will go, in shame. ”What I thought was, is not. I apologize to everyone, because my expectations exceeded your capabilities.

I want to hear NEW voices. “**** off!.” **** off!” Whatever! But if I'm wasting time in an area where less than 2% of the ”population” make others aware of their existence. Shame on you. Shame on me. And if you feel you have more to do with your time than to respond or comment on a posting by a fellow Marine, MY time has a value too.

I would argue with you, IF I felt there was ANY hope in changing a closed mind.. I am tempted to bow to your superior wisdom.

HOWEVER, Win, Lose, or Draw. Here we are, and there you are. And when the day is done, and we count up, wins and losses, plusses and negatives, ups and downs, ins and outs, I know where I am today, and where I will be tomorrow. Where are you?

agree with yoou top but often not that hot of a subject to pop in for a quick post in reply so read it and go on, usually just enough time to peruse the subjects read the ones that i want then of to work but agree it is a great place to visit, and keep in touch with the best people past present and future So Semper Fi MARINES GOD BLESS US ALL THE FEW, THE PROUD, THE MARINES.

    I agree w/you!

My experience w/interactive websites/forums/messageboards, etc. is that very, very few care to get involved (post) for whatever reason.

I have had quite a few small-time messageboards, and I have usually had a counter or sitemeter on them--from those stats there is little doubt that there are numerous visitors to my own site, but very few ever post--maybe one or two a week--usually looking for old buddies--or creeps from other boards looking for trouble--I have my board configured so that I must approve each post b4 it can be seen by others.

I think this Leatherneck.com is great for our purposes--and we should count our blessing that the idiots are posting elsewhere!

I have my own ideas on Marines Messageboards, etc. (posted elsewhere). keep in mind that many of these non-posters have been to other boards where they observe the brawling, insults, and so forth that goes on, and they just don't want that crap. Who wants to be attacked?
A lot of it has to do w/leadership--what are the intentions of the leaders--to sell junk to "brother" Marines?--to control others? To exercise authority?

    Like attracts like....

Ain't been in here for awhile, but I was cruisin thru this am and your post caught my attention Mike.

I started to say I can only speak for myself but that would be a lie. I can say that I am speaking for many of my bro's that used to post a whole lot more in here and don't anymore. Of the 3233 members in this place, how many of them are Marines. How many are civilians? How many are relatives of Marines? How many are people "claiming" to either be interested in joining the Marines ??

Now I am speaking only for myself. I have no interest whatsoever in what a scumbag civilian has to say about My Corps.
I have no interest in hearing what a scumbag civilian that is thinking about joining the Corps has to say, because if they ain't a Marine yet, it don't mean nothing to me. When I joined the Corps, I didn't have to or want to ask anybody sh!t about the Marine Corps, or MOS's, or Grunt versus Wingers, or this and that.
I just knew that I wanted to be a Marine and didn't need no damn advice from anyone on what it took to become one. All they need to know is how to get transportation to the "Yellow Footprints"...... Thats all.....

I have said from the beginning there should be either a place in clubs like this that only Marines can post in. Not any of the above.
They havent lived it, breathed it, felt it, so I couldn't give a rats azz less what they got to say in here.

It says under the "Marine Open Forum" as a description that it is a place for Brothers of the Corps to meet. It don't say nothing about civilians and people that don't know what the fcuk I'm talking about being in here.

I got no interest whatsover in what they think !! I couldn't care less.....

That may be why there are not as many posters here as ya might like.

    Rant Over....

PS......Semper Fidelis to all the MARINES in here.

Damn. I feel like I'm the host and I own the joint. I'm not and I don't, BUT:

fabboss: You pop in, with just enough time to read, and you're gone. I can dig it. But, every 2nd or 3rd visit, can you post a "No ****, Dick Tracy" on something you have read? It makes the poster feel that his time was appreciated.

    gunnyg;

I too am glad that the idiots are posting elsewwhere.

"Non-posters have looked at other boards"(paraphrased) etc. I think we are safe here.

"Build it and they will come" is a stolen line from a movie about a baseball field. Originally, it was from the guy who invented the vibrator.

    Dane,

I'm glad to hear from you again, and that you're O.K. You and a whole lot of your bros don't post here any more. Where did you go that is better than this?

You don't want to talk to or deal with Poolees or Wannabees. I can deal with that. Let's keep them where they belong, in the Poolee Forum. They stay in there, and those that don't want to deal with them can stay out of there. What's the problem?

Your last point is also well taken. A Marine Open Forum should be restricted to Marines, past and present. Wannabees, Friends of, Wives of, should have their own forums.

    Shaffer. Are you paying attention?

Damn, I still sound like I own this joint. That's been my problem all of my life. "My street, my church, my school, my neighborhood, my club, my squad, my platoon, my Marine Corps.

NO, I will NOT apologize. If my name is on it .......................

Dane: Semper Fi Brother! Welcome Home.

Mike, I haven't really found a public Marine Corps forum that is just for Marines Only. I've searched and searched to no avail. I know that it costs money to run a site like this and that is why anybody is allowed in such as civilians, wannabe's, poolees and such. I dont have the know how and technology but I'd be willing to bet that if somebody started a Forum for Marines only, and it had Marine Corps issues and subjects only that the Marines would be willing to pay a small monthly or yearly fee to join it....that way there wouldn't have to be any ads on it or
things like that. But it would definately need to be a MARINES ONLY forum !! Hell they could have threads for WWII Marines, Korean, Vietnam, Beirut, Desert Storm and another thread for an ALL MARINE GENERAL BULLSH!T section....

Anyway, I know for a fact that is why many Marines don't post in here alot or now not even at all !!!

If I find another one, I'll let ya know Bro...thanks fer the comm!!

I got an opinion and it is real and honest. I expect this will be deleted also . The reason I haven't posted in a long time is because Jerry deleted some of my posts accusing me of attacking a person. Far from that Brother I attack words if people print words and my opinion is different I posted them If Lacyneck.com has a problem with that ****'em I won't post

Dane! good to see ya, brother! JoeT- How the hell ya been!I ain't heard from ya in awhile! Drop me a line!

    IMHO....

it is precisely that others are attracted to boards more like themselves, and therefore not posting here any more, that makes this board so great!

    Hmmm....

How would others not posting here know that nobody posts here--Aha! They must be looking to see.

On the question of poolees/wannabees--whatever they are called--I have long thought that they have no place on a Marines Forum, and it would be better if all Marines boards were out of that business--leave it for the recruiters to maintain sites for them in their own baliwicks. They would not be granted admittance to an NCO/SNCO/O Club anywhere to lurk about and soak up the scoop--why on a Marines board? Just my observation/opinion.

I'll be the first to tell ya - Joe and I have conversed about that subject matter more than a few times.
Then again, Joe and I know the value of Grunt Brothers - what we say and what we talk about - stays between he and I. End of story.
Sometimes I'd really enjoy opening up both pipes, and lettin 'er rip. Believe me, you think Gysgt Hartman was good? A rant? This would be more like a freaking series. I speak my mind. I also practice the fine art of calling bull$hit what it is. I think in my own judgement - that people - especially Marines, having postings deleted: is nothing short of censorship - decorum notwithstanding.
And, thats all I have to say about that.

Onto the 'opinions of others'. I'm here to say - if YOU have a computer in your house, and only use it for email, the occasional chat or to surf porn, yer a moron. You have the essential tool for knowing what the fvck is going on in your world at a moments notice, AND you have no excuse to the contrary.
This device I'm typing upon, has MORE POTENTIAL for the input of knowledge into the human brain than any schoolroom I have ever been in. I've learned more HERE online, than I did at Michigan State University. And one helluva lot cheaper too.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to operate one. For a small amount of money Dr Sherer (or whatever the Computer Doctor is on TV) will sell you a disc showing you what to do.

Ya spent the money on the thing. USE IT!!!!! Yes, it's a great thing communicating with people you haven't seen in 20+ years. At the same time, turn off the TV and use this for what it is designed for:
The Gathering of Knowledge in the Information Age.

Otherwise, take it out back, and pump it full of 00 buckshot.
Ya might as well cause that's about all the use yer gettin out of it.

Go bury yer head back in CNN or whatever.

Semper Fidelis - to the Marine Corps

I also think, along those lines -

    - sometimes if ya got nothing to say worth sayin' - then DONT.

    But by the same token...

    - if you think that by not saying anything that you are part of the solution, you're really part of the problem.

AND...... if you think for some unbeknownst reason - that something you might say (post) is only a particular problem of yours to deal with ....... guess what?

I'm still a MARINE....... I value my Brothers and Sisters as I hope they would value Me.

    How about YOU?

Joe....I have known you for awhile now....
I think I do understand you, I hope....
Yes I do believe some folks need to see reality....
It aint easy out in this world.....and being a Marine isn't shooting a gun for fun and being a poster boy for them......
When I joined the Corps.....I joined because I wanted to be a Marine...I got whatever MOS they gave to me.....No Questions Asked.....
That is Old Corps........Things have Changed....and We must adapted and overcome a little.....Maybe a little harder for us Old Corps Marines, but we do overcome.....
All we are saying if you think it could be offensive to some folks.....with the virgin ears.....or could turn into a personal attack...Then instead of Posting it.....Just take it to PM or Email...
Hell give a taste of reality..behind the scenes.....If they can't handle it.....Then the Corps isn't what they are looking for....
I'm glad to see you voiced your opinion........
So now getting down to business, We missed your ugly butt.....LOL
We are of the Old Corps and We do Stick Together......

    Bones......LMAO...........

    Question

As i see it, (yes its my opion, and just like A**H**s, we all have them) I dont feel threatened by having poolees, wives, girlfriends, and mothers, on board , it doesent stop me from saying what i want to sans language, what are we to do, isolate our selves from the rest of the world, Im not old Corps, or New Corps, 62-66, I like to think Im part of THE CORPS, and that I can accept information from all sources, and use the parts i want , and discard those parts i dont, as stated above, go to pm if something personol comes up, but dont shut out the world, we are the best , because we assimalate all information and use what makes us better , Nuff Said , SEMPER FI. TO ALL ON BOARD.
