Forest Lake Times

A book signing event with the author of a new book on Minnesota Marines who served in Vietnam will take place in Forest Lake this Saturday.

Author Christy W. Sauro, Jr. will be the guest of Morgan & Company, 25 N. Lake St. in the Park Place building from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday.

He is the author of “The Twins Platoon, An Epic Story of Young Marines at War in Vietnam.”

The story is the account of 150 Marines who took their military oath at home plate of a Minnesota Twins game at Metropolitan Stadium in June of 1967. Before 1967 would end, most of the Marines would be on duty in Vietnam.

The book takes readers through the lives of nearly 50 Marines and their family members from the days of boot camp to fighting the Viet Cong and NVA troops throughout Vietnam. The book provides a detailed history of Southeast Asia and the United States role in the war to halt the spread of communism in the region.

During the three-hour session on Saturday, Sauro, who is from North Branch, will talk about his book at 1:30 p.m. An open discussion will follow.

The book, published by Zenith Press, St. Paul, is now available for purchase at Morgan & Company.

Sauro will be available to autograph and sign copies of the book on Saturday.

Sauro also has two book signings slated in April.

On April 19 he will at the Barnes & Noble store at Har Mar in Roseville. A time has yet to be selected for the Har Mar event.

On April 22 from 1-4 p.m. he will have a book signing at the Anoka County Historical Society in Anoka.
