    Three steps:

First: marines ALWAYS begins with a capital letter. "Marines".

Second: Print a copy of this, and leave it with your mama.

Third: Break it out and we'll discuss it again, AFTER you become a Marine.

I look forward to talking to you again in March.

    Good luck.

SKynetlabs, congratulations on signing! You've got me and some other wannebees very jealous right about now. Which MCRD are you going to?

Be sure to bring back lots of stories from MCRD to help keep us wannabees motivated and let the Old Salts laugh at you.

    I can't resist!

You'll be a rifleman first, then whatever else the Corps has in mind for ya.

There's lots of opportunity in the Marine Corps. It matters more than anything else you will ever do in your life.

Someone will be along with the answer to your question, I',m sure. Be patient.

In the meantime, look around the Poolee forum and the Mentor forum. I remember posting something about MOS's in there somewhere....

    Arrow No longer FMF

Now it's known as operational forces.

Choosing an MOS is secondary, I will agree. However, once you have decided to become a Marine, the MOS is the icing on the cake. Regardless of what anyone else feels, an MOS is a personal decision. Why some of us chose our MOS or had it dictated to us, was not their fault. Most future Marines have a ligitimate reason for chosing the MOS or program guarantee they did. Remember, there are no unimportant jobs in the Corps.

I remember the way San Diego used to be....

    Beautiful beaches and prettier wimmin!

    Hangin' around the PX....

    Hiking in the mountains....

    Yep.

It only got better after boot camp!

    What a life.....

My brother asked me about Boot Camp when I got leave; "I just can't explain it, you have to do it".

Ah, Yes! Lovely San Diego! The shimmering sands, the sun glinting off the quonset huts ( I'm sure they have the condos up by now), those magnificent heights at Camp Geiger (hmmm? It's been awhile, those heights may have eroded ).

Whatever. Just keep chanting to yourself, as you're running, "100%, 100%, 100%!" (2 step chant)

Don't know diddley about "guaranteed "MOS, but as WRBones said, you will be guaranteed a rifle. Anything else, you gotta show aptitude: there WILL be tests!

ive been disencouraged by so many people about the Marine corps they keep telling me how all they get is army hand me downs and infantry is very meager and underfunded. They tell me all these dumb horrible storys and always get mad at me because I didnt join the airforce.Ive got various computer certifications and am highly knowledgable about computers and electronic hardware but I tell them I didnt choose the Marines for a tech job I choose it for the experience and extremem physicallity and discipline involved.
