PFT perfect

Despite the old saying that no one is perfect, a leatherneck on Okinawa, Japan, has maintained a flawless Physical Fitness Test score for more than 20 years.

According to a Marine Corps news release, Maj. Dean Keck, the division ordnance officer for 3rd Marine Division, had a perfect 300 score on his Jan. 11 PFT.

It was his 43rd consecutive time doing so.

According to 3rd MarDiv's assistant division ordnance officer, Chief Warrant Officer 3 Arthur Cunliffe, Keck's physical performance has helped him in the Corps. "He is driven every day to do the best he can in PT," Cunliffe said. "It is reflected in his performance at work."

Keck, a former enlisted battle tank technician, has never scored below 300 on the PFT since he joined the service in 1984. And his reputation preceded him at his current shop.

"We heard rumors about him being a PT [go-getter] in 2001," Cunliffe said. "When he got here, he only put one plaque on the wall, his 40th 300 PFT plaque."

Keck could more than keep up with the younger Marines, as he built unit cohesion and improved physical fitness within the shop, Cunliffe said, because "as leaders, we must be able to lead from the front."
