Post Office Named After Fallen Soldier

A Pflugerville post office now bears the name of a local soldier killed in Iraq last year.

Twenty-five-year-old Marine Sgt. Byron Norwood died while trying to save seven other Marines.

In honor and celebration of the life of Marine Sgt. Byron Norwood, his name now appears on the front of the Pflugerville post office.

Family and friends of the Norwoods attended a special ceremony at the post office Monday.

Marine Sgt. Byron Norwood was killed over a year ago after volunteering for a rescue mission to save seven other Marines in Fallujah.

Sgt. Norwood's father says it's been a day of mixed emotions.

While they miss their son, they are very proud to be his parents and a part of Monday's celebrations.

"Unbelievable," Byron's mother Janet Norwood said.

"Not the kind of thing you ever think of. When we saw the letters on the building a couple nights ago, we were glad we were here by ourselves -- pretty overwhelming," Byron's father Bill Norwood said.

It was no easy task. U.S. Representative Michael McCaul had to introduce federal legislation to re-name the post office in Pflugerville after Byron Norwood.
