CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A few good men and women from Western Massachusetts got their first taste of U.S. Marine training at Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee this weekend.

These newly enlisted Marines sampled some of the fitness regimen they'll be put through when they begin boot camp training at Paris Island, South Carolina.

Marine Drill instructor Sgt. Mark Logan told 22News what these recruits went through was just a sampling of what's ahead at Paris Island.

“A mile and a half run they're going to do, I guess they get the program when they come to boot camp. Only they won't run a mile and a half in Boot camp, they run 3 miles in boot camp,” said U.S. Marine SGT. Mark Logan.

Family members watched to see their Marine recruit sons and daughter shape up.
