I have a friend who was a Tunnelrat in Vietnam with Force Recon and he told me he did his boot in 8 weeks sometime in the late 60's I believe...

    He was drafted too.
Although I was not drafted I can attest to the shortened training snipowsky.
I went through PISC in Aug 1965.
    8 Weeks of boot camp.
    We DID get to sleep.
What I do not know to this day is what training was left out.
    What training was condensed.
I sure did know that it was shortened to expidite rotation of Marines to WESTPAC (Vietnam).
I believe 1965 was the beginning of the build up of troops in 'Nam.
ITR was still 4 weeks in 65.
