    Quick Historical Question

OK, I'm pretty sure I'm up fairly well on my Marine Corps history, but before I fire back at this numbnut that apparently has become quite angry and defensive at being called out, I want to make sure my ducks are in a row.

At any point in time (though mainly in the last 20 years, has the Recruit Training Cycle EVER exceeded 13 weeks?

    Thanks in advance.

    - Meyer

hmnnnn. not to my knowledge, but then again, iam not even surew what day it is

By "Training Cycle", do you mean both Boot and ITR?

If yes, then it has exceeded 13 weeks. Boot 12 wks and ITR 4 wks.

But if you just mean Boot Camp then I would say that I never of it.

    HELL NO!

Correct me if I'm wrong Vietnam Veterans, but the only time recruit training has ever been changed is during the Vietnam War/"Conflict" and it was shortened to get more recruits out to the FMF.

I have a friend who was a Tunnelrat in Vietnam with Force Recon and he told me he did his boot in 8 weeks sometime in the late 60's I believe...

    He was drafted too.

I think when I went through MCRD SD it was about 12 weeks in 1984.

8 weeks! Did they let the maggots sleep during that time?

Probably not! Heck I don't remember sleeping much when I went for 12 weeks. Imagine how bad it would be for only 8?

Then again boot camp wasn't anything compared to SOI. Boot camp is a joke compared to SOI! I was with Alpha Co. at Camp Gieger... called us Atheletic Alpha for some odd reason?

Could it have been the daily 10 mile runs?

I went through bootcamp in the Summer of '68. It was eight weeks of fun in the sun on the beaches of MCRD San Diego...

Bootcamp was only 12 weeks long in October of 1976.In P.I. where the sand is 18" deep and the sand fleas also get to eat new meat.

Has anyone ever heard of recruits being held over in processing for longer than a week while waiting for a company to form? At least in recent years?

"Receiving' time may have a variable to it. As I recall, Jan '76 (crossed the P.I. gate @ midnight 12/31/75) I spent just over a week in receiving before being picked up.

Hair cuts, basic issue, testing, shots, etc.

    I can still hear SSgt Johnson (about 10 ft tall, dark green Marine);

"WHEN I GIVE YOU THE COMMAND FORWARD MARCH, FORWARD BEING THE PREPATORY COMMAND AND MARCH BEING THE COMMAND OF EXECUTION....."
