JROTC Shooting Program Threatened
Info on this is sketchy but it looks like some female admiral is trying to shut down the Navy's participation in the JROTC shooting program. The cause, a couple of accidental firings--we're talking airguns, not firearms.
High schools nationwide have riflery programs with competitors from Navy, Marine, Army and Air Force JROTC programs participating. Nationwide competition is even available by shooting a known three-position course and mailing the targets to a Navy judge, referee (?), scorer.
Anyway, it's a seedbed for Olympic competition as well as a way to give kids another outlet to compete.
In Georgia it's a big deal. Georgia has one of the nation's top high school riflery programs administered not by the services but by the Georgia High School Association.
I'll keep posting as I learn more.
