What ships did you embark to ??

Recent threads have prompted me to ask,

What Ships did you embark onto, even for awhile ??

    USS Cleveland LPD 7 (?)
USS Van Couver LPD 3 (?)
    USS Okinawa LPH 4
    USS Iwo Jima LPH 3
    USS Portland LSD 37
    USS Nassau LHA 4

On the gangplank, stop short of the Quarterdeck
    Face the Flag, Salute, two
    Approach the Quarterdeck
Salute the OOD; 'Sir, request permission to come aboard'
Two, when salute is returned by the OOD
    Board the quarterdeck

Stow your life possessions in a 1 cubic foot (or smaller) locker and Sea Bag
Stay out of the Navy's way
    Play Spades
    Practice 'MAN OVERBOARD' drill
    Play Spades
    Learn 'Battle Station' assignment
    Play spades

What have I left off ???

    USNS General William Wiegle.

Sailed aboard this ship out of San Diego, California in April, 1966 on my way to Vietnam.

Disembarked the Gen Wiegle in May, 1966 in the South China Sea onto:

LST 1477. (I do not know the name assigned this LST).

Disembarked LST 1477 at the famous Chu Lai LST ramp thus beginning my 19 month tour in the 'Nam.

    Empty all trash cans,
    Sweepers man your brooms
Turn to. Clean sweep and swab down fore and aft!
    Play Spades

    Ships!
    God there were so many.
I might have to break out my SRB for the ships pior to Vietnam.
Among those ships were a few subsmarines.
    Non nuclear type.
USS Van Couver LPD 3 1965 to off the coast of the city of Hue.
Than by "Mike" boat up the Perfume River to the city of Hue, South Vietnam.
Than by 6x to the Phu Bi airstrip.
It was so many years ago.
One ship, I remember hittting the tail end of a Typhoon.
Sea's were so rough, they had to tie us in when we were on watch topside.
Below in the holes, many a Marine loss his lunch or breakfast.
APA's, LST"s, LSD and a couple of submarines come to mind of a time long ago...
After 1966 most of our travel was done via air.

    Miss that call;
    "Sweeper man your brooms!
Turn to. Clean sweep and swab down fore and aft!"

    (boswains whistle over the 1MC)

Sweepers Sweepers man your brooms. Give the ship a clean sweep down fore and aft. Hold all trash and garbage on station. Now Sweepers.

(boswains whistle over the 1MC again)

Semper Fi, mrbsox. Its Great you posted the ships we were on, but one small deal is, the USS IWO-JIMA was the LPH-2. It is really a shame the Navy sold Her for scrap last year. The new one is now the LHD-12. HMM-265 extracted the 9th MAB from the field on the 8th of June ' 69, as I had 8 loads of Grunts from cordnates 9657, and they stood down for 12 days. 265 startes flying combats again on the 20th of June ' 69. I was CrewChief of EP-14. Semper Fi. ACE

    Thanks JohnEaceHunt
Guess I got the '?'s in the wrong spot

The LHAs were still coming into Commission as I was E.A.S.ing; Tarawa class I think.
    MONSTERS they are.
Double wide well deck, flight deck, hanger deck; The danm vehicle stowage space was huge. As near as I can remember, a reinforced BLT was able to embark.

The LHDs are even bigger. Got a web link somewhere....

See what this one does, says the LHD is 'WASP' class
