CAMP PENDLETON – A 20-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine from Dallas was found dead in the Euphrates River in Iraq, base officials said today.
Cpl. Jeffrey G. Green's body was found Wednesday in the river in the al-Anbar province.
Marines have been involved in heavy fighting in the al-Anbar region since taking control of the area in March from the Army's 82nd Airborne Division.
The cause of Green's death is under investigation, base officials said.
Green was an infantryman assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.
He joined the Marine Corps on June 4, 2001. His personal awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
