Pendleton Marine killed in training accident

SAN DIEGO A 20-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine was killed in a vehicle accident while training at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, base officials said today.

Lance Cpl. Peter J. Sora died Tuesday when the military vehicle he was riding in rolled over during an exercise, base officials said.

Sora, a Rockingham, N.H. native, served as an assistant machine gunner for the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton, base officials said.

Sora joined the Marine Corps January 14, 2003. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal.

The accident is under investigation, base officials said.
