Thanks Ellie and Doc, Petty Officer 3rd Class "Doc" Layton was indeed a Combat Doc, he lived nearby here where I live and there have been several newspaper articles in the last few days. Doc Layton was on a training mission and at the front of the column when the attack started. Doc Layton enlisted in the Navy 2 years ago.
Doc Layton was administering first aid to wounded Marine 1st Lt. Michael Johnson of Virgina Beach, VA when they were both killed in a fierce battle that also killed 2 Marine SNCOs, Gunnery Sergeant Edwin Johnson Jr. and Staff Sergeant Aaron Kenefick, both from GA, and 9 Afghan soldiers and border officers. 21 others were wounded, including 3 Americans.
My most sincere condolences to all their families and friends. RIP brothers.
