Wives, husbands and family members of Parris Island Marines got a small taste of what it's like to go through recruit training Saturday during Jane Wayne Day at the depot.
A barking drill instructor ushered the civilians into a day-in-the-life of a Marine recruit. After that, participants fired live rounds with an M-16, rappelled down a near 50-foot wall, practiced teamwork and leadership on a reaction course and entered a life-size video game as part of a firearm simulator that included rifles, pistols and grenade launchers.

Annette O'Day's favorite part of the day was firing an M-16 at the rifle range.
