joining late
Hey guys, first day on this site.
I have always dreamed of joining the military and serving my country. My father served in veitnam, and my grandfather in ww2!
Listening to their stories of adventure and everlasting friendships
bonded by the core has really excited me about joining.
I am now 26 (as of feb) and question my endurance?!
I am scheduled to leave on april 5 2004 for camp pendleton, san diego. I am super strong, but lack in the long hual. (5'9-188lbs)
Any helpful advise for a hopeful marine would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean you lack in the long haul (5'9-188lbs).
I was 5'10 -134lbs when I shipped to bootcamp in 1997.
When I graduated I was 6ft - 160lbs.. I am not sure what they did to me, I think I ate to much sand.
Let us know what some of your concerns are.

Great advice! I've been jogging 3 miles a day,but I jog in bursts and cant seem to go farther than 1 mile without stopping.
My main concern is my initial stength test, I am performing well on my sit-ups (60 in 2 min.),and am doing 3 full pull-ups. I am only worried about my 1 1/2 mile run time.
I scored high on my asvab, and feel alot of pressure to do well in my physical performance too.
Any other suggestions?

You'll be fine! Use this time to build your endurance and get used to be treated like a child again. The benefit might be that you will be put in a leadership position given your age and maturity. Set a good example and you will be rewarded!

Just to let you know, you appear to be barely passing the IST ( ON ALL THREE AREAS). You need to make sure you are doing some form of PT daily. You should be on a crash course to pass the IST within 30 days of shipping. If you and your recruiter have not made this plan, you need to ask him or his NCOIC to get one started. Remeber the diet and your weight will also factor into how quickly you can improve. Eat healthy and get some dietary advice.
