Movement to teach Black Language in Schools........
One academician who thinks that this is a bad development is Boston University’s Matthew Stewart. In today’s Martin Center article, he explains his position.
Regarding the demand, Stewart writes, “In language that invokes old Dixie rather than the 2020 schoolroom, the CCCC statement portrays American schools as places where black children meet nothing but disrespect in their English classes. Language instruction as it is now practiced is said to ‘seek to annihilate Black Language + Black Life.’ Thus, educators are called to engage in a ‘political process that must inherently challenge institutions like schools whose very foundations are built on anti-Black racism.’”
Lots of English teachers will no doubt be devastated to hear that they have been complicit in the “annihilation” of black life and language when they correct papers for grammatical errors.
- ADVERTISEMENT -This wild exercise in virtue signaling will make many “progressives” feel good, but will it do anything for students? Stewart thinks not: “Proponents of Black English have made similar proposals in the recent past. The controversial 1990s Ebonics movement (a purpose-built blend of ebony and phonics) arose from the same basic assumptions as the CCCC statement, which is bound to produce the same set of counterarguments heard by Ebonics proponents. The chief criticism leaps to mind: Students who do not learn Standard English will be at a disadvantage once they leave their classrooms.”
I’m sure the “progressives” will then solve that problem by demanding that employers stop caring about how well prospective employees can use English.

I don't lnow about the rest of the country; but here in Mississippi, there are very few white kids in the schools. They are in private schools.
Therefore this article is bull****!

I'm pretty sure that almost the hole country will not go for this..
Anyone ever having to learn English . WOW what a concept , Even President Roosevelt said everyone needs to learn..
If you don't know well learn it..
Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

yes, Russ, it do...... this entire line of thinking is predicated on the assumption that blacks cannot learn to speak the English language properly... a total fallacy .... if that was the case, how does one explain individuals like James Earl Jones, Samuel Jackson, Allen West, and yes, B. Obozo as well... all speak perfect ENGLISH, and there are many others, some of whom maintain a BRITISH accent, like Lenny James.... the only reason that the American black does not properly speak and pronounce the English language is because it is almost impossible to keep them in school long enough to learn that particular skill.... these people learn to speak on the streets of the projects, from people with the same or less education than they have.... and, to add insult to injury, blacks that become teachers in our schools do not themselves speak the language properly, so how could they possibly TEACH someone else to do so.....???? this is just ANOTHER biotch, gripe and complaint invented by the "progressives" to ferment discontent amongst the black community and to instill more "white guilt" on the gullible.....

In principle this is the same as showing Caucasian youth to wear their pants around their knees? or walk & talk as undisciplined ghetto rats? And the Dems talk about moving backwards?.......They have already taught them how to leach off the system for 6 or 7 decades?.....I have taken civil service tests for LEO years ago! and part of the test was "black English vernacular" the word Jail was Jayo in that style! unbelievable to me then and even more so now!

I was tempted just now to comment on this latest outrage, but it would have to be heavily censored.
