Might be true for the 'old salts' I suppose, but judging just from today's birthdays posted at the bottom of the main forum's index, it looks like less than 1/3 of the members here are over age 60. Average lifespan of US military veterans is somewhere between 58 and 64 years of age.
According to to the VA, approximately 30,000 USMC enlisted leave the service each year and 30,000 new enlistees become veterans.

The number of people here that post and the number of new members do not come anywhere close to reflecting that, while other websites similar to this one come a lot closer to doing so.
The poolee, Ask a Marine, and Recruit forum in general are all but ghost towns, and it didn't used to be the case.

So..exactly WHAT happened to this website?

Middle east wars winding down and too much politics (on all boards) pushes Marines out who are tired of it. This is just my view. Semper Fi

This board was created when 9 were completely--
    unjustifiably--
    permanently banned from Leatherneck.com

    But the truth prevailed.

We got the truth across to the powers that be,
    and were not only reinstated,
but the person responsible for the false accusations
    was permanently banned himself.

Justice, as well as truth, prevailed.

This is all in the past.

those are not my words - but of another regular posting
Marine still now on this site.

Suffice it to say trust and power
was placed into the wrong hands
    and was abused .

In your statement you mention recruiting
/ consider IF Fewer are enlisting
would not relitive questions reduce by
    number and volume ?

consider also please other new attractions
that compete for limit3d brainpower in some
    cases.
    skype - twitter -facebook-
reducing the numbers audience to Leatherneck.com

    the stones and coins
    atop the gravestone ain't there
    for the one beneath it.

? perhaps just a way of posting
a personal message to them from
the past and to them that may come
    in the future .

So..exactly WHAT happened to this website?

After reading back several years worth of posts, threads and related actions, I think you are 1/2 right PaulWill.

Little by little political correctness eaked it's way into this website, and I watched as it began, when admin or a moderator at the time announced that member were to start "behaving' themselves (not the wording that was used) as even tho USMC didn't sponsor the board, we were a reflection of the Corps. What it amounted to was that members were to no longer act like Marines but were to conduct themselves here as some sanitized, cleaned up, poster boy facsimile of Marines and that is not what has always set Marines apart from the other 3 branches.

One of the few remaining ACTIVE members here, I read just a couple days ago, said something like "Not but about a handful of members still posting here..go ahead, filter some more".
The gist of which was, "Go ahead admin/mods, keep driving people away and see how that works out".

1st Lady Elanore Roosevelt once stated:
The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!

Those in charge here would do well to reflect on her words and stop trying to make Marines act like they are not Marines.

    Right now, the stats say:
    1 members and 1323 guests
    Most users online 4,336
    greybeard

    Members 117,931
    Active Members 120

120 active members out of 117931. that's way less than one 1%.

So, hows that 'sanitized' version of United States Marine working out?
    Those stats aren't lying.
Maybe...just maybe, it's time to let Marines just be Marines...

Put up a link for your comment ""Not but about a handful of members still posting here..go ahead, filter some more".
The gist of which was, "Go ahead admin/mods, keep driving people away and see how that works out"

How many years were you away from the forum? You have read a few comments and think you know what has happened from a couple comments? There is a reason why there are no new post in the forums you mentioned, but I'm not the person to address the issue.

    When threads have ;
    Ended?
    Died ?
Lived a happy or questionable life?

    a warped/bent/reflective approach
    is sometimes used that garners
    attention-
    back to the old thread
or onto new ideas and thoughts
    somefolk' stick on it-

admins here have once or twice
    taken me aside,
    gained my attention.
and let me go about my business,
with out the old man ever finding out
    about it........
yah yah - i know - ida kept my nose clean
    ida been a Sgt too....
    but i wouldn't be happy.

    I won't break salt on you ,
    or rub dates and questions
    about wheres and whens -
    we've ridden the same bus.
    and looked out different windows
while we were there. My seat waz
    a couple places before you.

I notice your profile is different than
others that pass thru now - due to
    Jerry Shaffer changing their format
    and information required.

I cant ask just who your friends were
    while you habited/frequented the site-
you have no email address either.

    I can just say-
    Hang around,
    you can post,
    you might laugh,
    you may get bored or
    irritated after watching the wallpaper
and the paint on the bench dry.

you're not in a room full of virgins here-
    some of us
    have been
    around.

    sometimes i push the edge.
hence the need to filter postings.

There are several reasons why it's slower. Greybeard, most who join LN will never make a post. Curiosity is one factor. Looking for a Buddy is another. Some just read and post once in a Blue Moon. Times have definitely made a difference. At one time there was plenty of Liberals posting. That was fine. However, Obamas policies changed Democrats into Progressive Idiots. They tried to impose their gay rights, black lives matter, same sex marriage, gun take away, and my way or no way attitude. It doesn't work here. The active members we do have are mostly Nam Veterans or older than 68. We remember what a great America is like.....and we don't like any Liberal azzhole trying to change it. ....Just saying....
