King David's city discovered? Ancient site linked to biblical kingdom,

    archaeologists say

By James Rogers | Fox News

Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered an ancient site that may offer fresh insight into the ancient biblical kingdom of David and Solomon.

Researchers from Bar-Ilan University have been excavating the remains of a large house dubbed the “Governor’s Residence” that was destroyed by a fire in an 8th century B.C. Assyrian military campaign.

The impressive four-room home, located at Tel ‘Eton in the Judean foothills, had at least two stories and its ground floor extended over 2,420 square feet. Occupying high ground at the top of a mound, the house was carefully built with deep foundations. Large masonry stones were placed in the corners and entrances of the building and high-quality building materials were used, according to experts.

The discovery could shed new light on the joint kingdom ruled by David and his son Solomon, which is described in the Hebrew Bible, but has long divided historians. Also known as the united monarchy, the territory is said to have included the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.

While some experts believe that the kingdom existed in the 10th-century B.C., others have questioned its existence, citing a lack of evidence of royal construction at the center of the region where the kingdom is said to have existed.

However, part of the building at Tel ‘Eton has been dated to a period in history that coincided with the supposed joint kingdom, according to Prof. Avraham Faust and Dr. Yair Sapir. The archaeologists recently published their findings in the journal Radiocarbon.

"Surprisingly, radiocarbon dates from within the floor make-up and from within a foundation deposit that was placed below the floor indicate that the building had already been erected in the 10th century BCE, between the late 11th century and the third quarter of the 10th century BCE. This date is in line with other finds related to the construction, like the foundation deposit itself," said Prof. Faust, in a statement.

The construction of such a major residence at the top of a mound, with commanding views over the local area, marks an important event in the site’s history, according to Faust and Sapir, particularly when viewed in the context of the ancient city’s growth.

However, the archaeologists note that "the association with David is not based on direct archaeological evidence, but solely on circumstantial grounds." Nonetheless, the erection of the residence and the growing size of Tel ‘Eton could make a link to the David plausible, the researchers say, noting that the King is said to have existed in the nearby Judean highlands.

Another site at Khirbet Qeiyafa in the Judean highlands, about 12.5 miles north of Tel ‘Eton, has also been linked to David, Haaretz reports. Jerusalem and other biblical cities such as Hebron, are also located in the Judean hills.

There have been a number of fascinating finds in the region in recent years. A trove of bronze coins, the last remnants of an ancient Jewish revolt against the Roman Empire, were recently discovered near the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.

In February, archaeologists announced the discovery of a clay seal mark that may bear the signature of the biblical Prophet Isaiah.

Last November, new evidence dated Christ’s tomb in Jerusalem’s Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the Roman era, matching historical records.

Other finds include the skeleton of a pregnant woman, dating back 3,200 years, in Israel’s Timna Valley, at a place once called King Solomon’s Mines.

At the site of an ancient city on the West Bank, archaeologists are also hunting for evidence of the tabernacle that once housed the Ark of the Covenant.

Some experts also believe they have found the lost Roman city of Julias, formerly the village of Bethsaida, which was the home of Jesus' apostles Peter, Andrew and Philip.

Amen Pat.....I love it when so called science experts have to swallow their shallow words. A lot of people will be crying someday......when they realize the Bible words are not just idle scribbles.

The Bible and the Torah have both been proven historically and by archeology many times over the years. The Quran can't make the same claim other than in a couple of insignificant places (such as the probable existence of the Kaaba in pre-Islam Mecca when it was used for polytheist pagan worship).

Thing is......the Quran only applies to Muslims.......all others are infidels. Infidels are to be made slaves of muslims or put to death.....or both. Todays movement by muslims, is not because they are afraid of living in their own Countries, I'ts a movement to dominate the World.

I'm well aware of that, Billy. Islam, from almost it's first days has been bent on conquest. If you read the Quran and the Hadith, initially Islam worked on gaining voluntary converts (often called the Medina Period). As Muhammad became more and more weird and demanding in his "revelations," people started avoiding Islam and many converts left the fold as well. This situation led into the "Meccan Period" when Muhammad became violent and started killing apostates and attacking population centers (such as they were then) and forceably converting people, or failing in that, killing them. Jews and Christians were particular targets (and still are). Mecca was conquered and most of the people there put to the sword because they had been the most against Muhammad's claims of prophethood from his youth, even though that was where he was from. He co-opted the use of the Kaaba, destroying all of the pagan god images there, but keeping some of the rituals even though they too were pagan. Those rituals are all still part of the hajj.

I've believed for years that Islam is, at best, a political cult. Not a religion. People think Adolph Hitler and the Nazis were mass murderers? It's estimated that Muslims are responsible for over 270,000,000 non-Muslim deaths over the past 1,400 years since Islam has been around. No one, not Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or other killers can match Islam, even all together. No telling how many Muslims were killed whose deaths can also be laid at the feet of Muhammad and Islam.

There have been some studies done fairly recently, that examined the Quran, Hadiths, and other writings of Islamic "scholars." It appears that Muhammad was a dwarf, and a fat, unattractive one too. This is believed why he had a "revelation" that prohibits images of him. He also suffered from a large number of mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, narcissism, a bunch of sexual issues (including pedophilia and even necrophilia), and more. He was a walking DSM.

that sure doesn't say much for his "avid believers", or even just "followers" does it.....

No it doesn't, considering Muhammad was illiterate and ill educated despite his claims to be well versed in the Torah and Bible. The guy he had as his first scribe, got tired of writing down all the nonsensical BS, and got out of dodge. The vast majority of his initial followers were just as illiterate and ill-educated, and so were easy to BS. When he started getting better educated followers, it was after the "Meccan Period" when they either converted or died. Out of fear, they went along with his program.

Educated Muslims these days, do have problems reconciling real life, real science, with the Quran, but still go along with the program out of fear just like the olden days. For instance, Muhammad "revealed" that Muslims had one set of intestines, but non-Muslims had seven sets. Try being a Muslim doctor these days and having to buy off on that crap. But they do.

It is my understanding that many followers of Islam in the Middle East are functional illiterates, that only PRETEND to "read" the Quran, when in fact, they have "learned" what the book says by rote from THEIR imam.. which brings up the subject that each imam can and does put THEIR OWN "twist" to what the Quran allegedly says....

That is basically the truth of it. The Quran is written in an ancient Arabic. Most readers of modern Arabic cannot read the Quran as "written." As I pointed out to my son the other day when we were discussing this very thing, reading the Quran is much like we trying to read Old English. My son looked up Old English and noticed what I was saying immediately. He actually found Beowulf as the example.

Muslims, including the Imams, learn the Quran by rote. The educated Imams can read the Quran, but stick another piece of Old Arabic in front of most of them and they're lost.

Islamic "scholars," for the most part, probably can read old Arabic like some English literature scholars can read Old English (JRR Tolkein being a well-known example).

But, Imams putting their own spin on the Quran is merely following the example of Muhammad. He made stuff up as he went along, changed his mind, and made new stuff up. The bad part is all of it is in the Quran, the original BS along with the replacement BS. The tricky thing is trying to figure out which is which as the most recent BS is supposed to control and the Quran is not written in chronological order. Thus the Imams and "scholars" have to interpret.

To add confusion, besides the Quran, there is the Hadith, supposedly a collection of sayings from Muhammad that are not considered "revelations" from Allah (which are in the Quran.) The Hadith is almost as sacred as the Quran as Muhammad spoke them. Then to make things still worse, there are "scholarly" works that discuss the Quran and Hadith and put more and different meanings on them. Depending on your denomination of Islam (Sunni/Shi'ia/Wahabbi, etc) depends on which "scholars" are considered "reliable."

    Its a mess.
