MOS Changed
My son's MOS changed while he was at MCT. His contract states 3521 (Motor T Mechanic), but he was told last Thursday that he's now 3531 (Motor T Operator). Why would this change and can it be changed back? My concern is that as an operator he is not going to learn a skill that will land him a job when he gets out. He wants to be a diesel mechanic and 3521 would have trained him in that skill.
Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks.

IF your son had signed and was promised
"motor transport mechanic"/ 3521 mos-
as an enducement to enlist- ?
?? your son was enlisting Marine Corps Reserve ?
THEM be the only people who
are given a probible MOS
prior to shipping to MCRD....
you didnt read the small print ?
DID-ja ?
Someplace in that US MarineCorpsReserve-
is a Reserve Marine who re-considered EOS
or re-upped for that school....

He enlisted delayed entry and waited until there was an opening in the MOS that he wanted.

When I joined the Corps you were given your MOS at the end of Boot Camp. They sat you down and read off names and your MOS. It was given to you by tests that you took. Mine was (3041) Supply Manual Accounting.
During my 20 years active duty service I only worked in Supply
for probably 5 or 6 years of that time. Never went to any type of Supply School. Just had OJT (on the job training). The rest of my time was spent working in Division Ordinance Office, I&I Staff Duty, Air Wing, Marine Corps Clothing Suppply, Barstow and Drill Instructor.
Your son will do just fine in whatever he ends up doing as long as he does what they tell him.

He should have read the fine print, they guarantee you the field not the MOS.

Thanks for the replies. He will graduate from his MOS school on Thursday. He said he actually likes driving the vehicles. He got his orders - he's going to Camp Pendleton, CA.

When I went in they told me that "Every day is a holiday, and every meals a feast." I still don't understand that one.
