aahhyes; but the movie doesn't tell you that the director, stanley kubrick, contacted ron ermey in the phillipines while he was recuperating from injuries sustained in vietnam to see if he would consider doing the lead role as gunny hartman.

    Sweetpea -
    I didn't say it did.
One version of your statement is
included in the video - IF you have
    time to watch it.

I said it is a "SHORT" about when they made
    the flick-

    Thanks.

According to the record, Kubrick did not choose Ermey for the part. In fact the little-known actor was hired as a technical consultant based on his experience in the military, but his talent as a character actor went far beyond his technical expertise.

Ermey submitted a video of himself as a drill sergeant, lambasting troops for 15 minutes straight without once hesitating or repeating himself. Kubrick was so impressed that he changed his mind and hired Ermey to replace Tim Colceri, who had originally been cast in the role.

Great to see you post! Thanks for the friends request as well. I feel honored. I agree it was a good movie! Lee Ermey , sure didn't have to practice for his role.
