I had the pleasure of using an M-60 during MP school in Ft Leonard Wood, Missouri. I think I had to be one of the last jarheads to train with one. This was in the year 2000 believe it or not. That low cyclic rate sure was nice for walking rounds in on target. In combat I got some trigger time on the M-60's replacement, the M240G. MUCH, faster cyclic rate (650-950 RPM) but still pretty controllable off a bipod, and a laser beam when mounted on a vehicle or a tripod. My true love though was Ma Deuce. Vehicle mounted, you could control an awful lot of area with that old girl. As long as I kept a nice coat of 10w30 on her she never gave me any sh!t, and the amount of firepower available there sure turned a lot of "cover" into "concealment" for the Muj we were fighting in Ramadi.

I'm fairly equal opportunity though, and anything that fires from an open bolt and has a happy switch I'll get behind. We have a 1921 Thompson at our station, a holdover from the prohibition days when the FBI was passing them out to PD's to help equalize the arms race with gangsters. It's in a case, under glass now, but when I first started here we used to bring it to the range every year and blow some .45 through it. That thing is a real hoot to shoot!

Hey Rocky, I've got pictures on my phone I wanna post, but I can't seem to make that happen. Is it absolutely necessary to upload them to a file hosting site, or am I missing something here? Thanks in advance.

  9. #24
Yep, you have to post them to a file hosting site like photobucket, etc. I don't think you can post pics here from your picture files on your computer.
