This defeat may be a blessing in disguise for the Panthers. Time to regroup, refocus, and get ready for the playoffs.

The Philadelphia Eagles have fired Chip Kelly, the team has announced. But the former head coach is not going away empty-handed.

Kelly still had two years left on his 5-year, $32.5 million contract, with an annual salary of $6.5 million, according to Spotrac.

That means the Eagles still owed Kelly about $13.4 million at the time he was let go.

If you want to play the math game, that means the Eagles will ultimately pay Kelly $32.5 million for 26 wins in three seasons, or about $1.25 million per win. That's pretty hefty.

Even after finishing 4-12, the Chargers will give Mike McCoy another opportunity in 2016.

The San Diego Chargers have announced that Mike McCoy will remain in the head coach role for a fourth season. Team president John Spanos said in a letter posted to the team's website that while they are disappointed with the results of the 2015 season, Spanos, McCoy and general manager Tom Telesco have already begun evaluating the changes that must be made to improve in 2016.

The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Johnny Manziel could be headed for a breakup, SI’s Peter King reports.

According to King, the Browns are ‘so done’ with Manziel after he missed a concussion checkup at team headquarters Sunday morning, and couldn’t be reached on his phone all day.

He added that Manziel, the No. 22 pick in the 2014 NFL draft, would like to play for the Dallas Cowboys.

Manziel grew up in Texas and played football at Texas A&M, and while Cowboys backup quarterback Kellen Moore is under contract for one more season, third-stringer Matt Cassel is not.

Tom Brady’s ankle injury seems to be a classic case of “It looked a lot worse than it was.”

The New England Patriots quarterback was hobbled Sunday after having his right ankle rolled under Miami Dolphins defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, but the injury isn’t serious. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday that an MRI revealed Brady suffered a sprained ankle but there were no breaks or fractures.

According to Schefter, Brady should be good to go when the Patriots begin their playoffs schedule on Jan. 16 in the AFC divisional round.

Brady, who was seen limping after the Patriots’ loss in Miami, told reporters in his postgame news conference that he was OK despite being a little bit sore. He reiterated that Monday in an interview with WEEI.
