Robert F. (Bob) Jones Obituary
Marine Corps Veteran Robert F. Jones passed away on December 16, 2014 ant the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland, NJ. He was 94 years of age. Bob joined the NJ National Guard after High School and remained in the Guard until he enlisted in the Marine Corps after Pearl Harbor. He spent time on the drill field before being sent to the Pacific Theatre as a member of the 3rd Marine Division. He was on Guam where he as wounded and he was later on Iwo Jima where he suffered wounds that disabled him for the rest of his life. He was awarded a Purple Heart for those wounds. After his return to civilian life, Bob didn't let his disabilities stand in his way. He was a co-founder of the Semper Marine Detachment of the Marine Corps League and served as Commandant for the local detachment but for the Department of New Jersey. He was a life member of the VFW as well as the Marine Corps League. Bob's devotion to Veterans was well known. He worked at the Veterans Memorial Home in Vineland for over 30 years before retiring in the early 1980's. Bob was appointed to the local Veteran's Cemetery Commission in 1969 an also served on the boards of many non-profit organizations.
A graveside memorial was held at Arlington National Cemetery on July 8, 2015.
