Can I get a crew chief job with the enlistment contract with code AF

I'm getting prepared to go to boot camp and no matter what the outcome of this inquiry is I will be going. That being said I would like to better understand an issue. I have been assigned the "enlistment incentive" of a job under the AF category. The description entails jobs in the 6000 6100 and 6200 field. I would like to be a crew chief and those MOS codes fit into the description. BUT I have found under the marine corps official site a more in depth MOS code list for each and saw under AF there are none for crew chief. (http://www.marines.mil/News/Messages...-programs.aspx) That is the web address where I found said info. Now with this discrepancy I am quite confused and my recruiter assures me that despite this I can get a crew chief position under AF. How do I do that? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Ask your recruiter that is what they are there for. the designation for a CH-53 crew chief is 6173 where on your link it shows it as an AG contract.

I did about a week ago. He had no information about how someone with an AF contract becomes a crew chief. All he informed me of is that it is possible. The four crew chief MOS's all sit under the AG contract in the aforementioned website. So it leaves me wondering how and what I have to do to become a crew chief with an AF contract.

We had Intel Specialists on our float that had their wings. Not sure if they were Crew Chiefs but they did some aircrew training and were in flight status. I dont know how common this is today but it definitely is possible. Are you asking about the specific pipeline to go from Mechanic to Crew Chief?

In essence I want to make sure I have the chance to go to the proper "A-school" on track to be a crew chief straight after recruit training. At this point I'm a little confused as to who gets to go and why. "Marines entering this field will either complete the appropriate training at Cherry Point, NC; Milton, FL; Fort Huachuca, AR; or Camp Pendleton, CA." from the USMC website... I just want the option to go to one of these schools after MCT. Whether or not I get the job I want at least a chance for it, and any explanation of how would be great.

You will be tested in Boot Camp. You cannot prepare for it. That will determine where you will be going to school for your particular MOS.

I appreciate the view, and your right sir. I'm trying to assuage any stress I feel by gaining knowledge about the process. It would be nice though if it was more concrete. More than anything else the fear of the unknown is a frustrating emotion to say the least.

Honestly I was unaware of it until after I chose AF thinking that the Occ field included crew chief.

There is no way you should be subjected to the stress of the unknown, not in today's Marine Corps.Heres hoping you get the job you deserve and have a right to get. Good luck.
