I got a 76 on the ASVAB and I'm going for 0231 Intel Specialist. However I haven't taken the DLAB yet, so I'm going to have to contract under something else until I take it and (hopefully) qualify for 0231. So I'll probably contract under something in the avionics wing until then. I'm writing this at the MEPS hotel now, swearing in tomorrow!

As far as I know you won't have to contract under anything while waiting for 0231 unless there are no more spots left. After I swore in, I went home and a couple of days later my recruiter called me and told me I needed to go back down to MEPS and take the DLAB for my MOS. I took the DLAB, went back to my RS, filled out paperwork for 0231, and now I'm waiting to ship.

Maybe I'm just a special case though. Either way, good luck with what ever happens.

Contracted today under avionics, however I'm going back sometime within the next few weeks to take the DLAB and hopefully get 0231 so I guess we're in the same boat. The only difference is my MEPS office decided to put something down for the sake of putting something down.

Strange, usually they send you home with an open contract. Has anyone else gotten a contract at MEPS other than an open contract?

I'm a reservist. All active duty guys get an open contract, reservists get their MOS in the contract but we can change ours the same way AD can.

  11. #536
Whoa whoa man, active duty gets to chose there MOS field, 03XX for example. Reservist get to chose their specific MOS job, 0311 for example. You can go open contract Active duty if you chose too, i don't know about reservist though, never asked my recruiter about that.

I didn't say you didn't get to pick your MOS. I was just saying most of the time you don't pick it down at MEPS.
