Please share your Personal Experiences within your MOS.

Hello everyone,

First I want to thank ever one on this forum that is already a Marine. Thank you for your service, and thank you for your contributions to this forum. I believe getting answers from those with experience is the absolute best way to learn things.

Second I want to preface this with the fact that I know my questions can be answered through hours of searching and reading through millions of other threads, or articles on this site and others. However I am employed full time, go to college full time, and have a wife and 3 month old child. So I am hoping to get a lot of answers in a single thread.

My question/request is simple. I would like those that have a few years in the Marines under their belt to explain what there MOS is, what the training/education for that MOS was like (including location and length), and what they do everyday within that MOS. I believe that would give myself and other poolees first hand explanations of the different MOS's without having to read through countless threads.

I would love to read about all MOS's, and if I had the time I would search threads for each MOS for those explanations. For my personal interests I would like to hear from people with the 02, 04, 18, 26, 35, 57, & 58 MOS groups, as I have not picked my MOS yet and those are my top choices. Of those I am leaning heavily on 02 or 58.

Thank you very much, but you are wrong. I am not an only child.

Further, I am not asking anyone to "Stifle" themselves, I am asking people respectfully to share their different experiences within their MOS's in a central location for those of us that are interested.

P.S. I almost did not sign up for this forum, because of all the threads I have already taken the time to read, 99% of the people give no good, time wasting, answers like yours. The 1% that do give good answers, are buried within the other 99% of the answers and take an average of 20 minutes sifting through the crap to get to the good information. So I am so sorry if I offended you in asking for more productive and helpful answers.

Questions about different MOS's is hard for just one Marine to answer. They vary from one Marine to another. Not to say you can't have the same MOS as someone else, just the experience is different. My experience with my MOS was exciting....almost daring. Not to say it was always exciting....almost daring. But, I would say for the most part it was very exciting....almost daring. There are many exciting MOS's, but very few that are exciting and almost daring. Having too much info on your MOS, makes it less exciting and the daring, nonexistent. You never have any surprises, which makes it less fun. So my advice is to put all MOS's in a big jar...close your eyes....reach in....pick, then look to see what you got. Hope this helps a little. Asking about one's MOS and their experience is a broad stroke and you'll get hundred if not thousands of different opinions. An MOS is what you make of it, I know guys in what is to be considered "crappy" MOS' by most but they love it and have gotten the opportunities to do other things. I also know guys in what are considered to be awesome MOS' yet they hate their life for one reason or another(mostly because they have bad attitudes).

I can really only speak from my experience and say that I am a 1391 Bulk Fuel Specialist AND a reservist, but I have had the opportunity to deploy and work outside of my actual MOS, crosstrain with others, and work around recon and special forces guys in country. My point is don't get to stuck on "oh this is my MOS and this is all I will do for 4 years(or however long you stay in)"

I loved my MOS school I was FROC. Field Radio Operator Course. 29 Palms California. Day started with cleaning latrines, and barracks, marching to parade deck, going to chow hall, making formation and marched to the school. There we learned communications utilizing various radios particularly Prc 77. It was broken down into modules. Things like water proofing radios, proper comm procedures field expedient antennas, many other things like how to fill out those comm cards. RUN SHOOT COMMUNICATE.

You obviously did not read my original post very well. I asked for any and all personal experiences within their MOS. I just added what I was personally most interested in. I was hoping this thread could be a place where any perspective Marine could go to get a lot of information in a short time.

Your bitter attitude however has made me realize that its most likely not going to happen on this website.

Which is very unfortunate because you as a Marine have the responsibility to reflect the Corps standards, and are currently making it look really bad. You are lucky I am not some 17 year old high-schooler that would get discouraged by your remarks and end up enlisting with another branch. And don't run me a line about being tough as nails and all that. I know you are, you are a Marine and I will respect you for that. But being tough when needed, and willing to share ones first hand knowledge with others are both admirable traits. Of which I personally do not believe your showing either right now.


I will finish with this for now. The USMC Leadership Traits are: Bearing, Courage, Decisiveness, Dependability, Endurance, Enthusiasm, Initiative, Integrity, Judgment, Justice, Knowledge, Loyalty, Tact, & Unselfishness.

Of those, in writing your thread replies, if you are honest with yourself, what have you upheld and what have you not?

what??....how is he running the show?....

In now way is or was he being disrespectful. He was being assertive and concise, if there is any qualities I look for in my Marines....those are it. Any dumb kid can blindly follow orders and let his peers and highers walk all over him.

Seriously though, some of you older Marines on here need to get off your pedestal and stop degrading some of these wannabes

I will be the first one to light up a Marine whether in person or on here(attempt to at least) if I feel that he/she is being disrespectful...but in no way was he doing such.
