BUMED Trouble. Am I better off trying another branch?
Hello Marines,
I am currently having trouble with the BUMED process. I was told that I need to get a waiver because of a surgery that I had on my ankle when I was about 14 years old. I got the doctors recommendation note and all of my medical history from when I had first injured my ankle all the way up until now and all the X-rays and everything. The doctor wrote me a note that said that I had "no signs of arthritis". I just received a letter yesterday from BUMED saying that they cannot grant me a waiver due to lack of information and that I need to submit more info from my doctor. I spoke to my cousin, who is a Marine, and he told me that if my BUMED waiver is denied it would even affect my chances of getting into another branch.
My real question is, am I better off going and trying to get into the Army at this point before I send in more info for BUMED to just deny my waiver all together? I really want to be a Marine, my father, uncles, and cousins are all Marines. But if this process is just going to stop that from happening along with stop me from serving in the Military all together, am I better off trying for the Army? I have heard the Army is a little better with Medical Waivers than the Marine Corps. And just to add, I am already 24 years old. I know I'm not old by any means, but for the military I'm getting up there.
I would appreciate any feedback if possible.
Thank you,
MG

There is nothing there that says you will be denied at all. Get whatever docs they are asking for and submit them. If you get denied, you can try the army. Rarely it will get through another branch but it does happen. Just stick with the process and see what happens. If they are asking for more docs that is probably a good thing. If it was that bad they would have dq'd you already.

yes try elsewhere with 4000 people trying to get 400 boat spaces for re-enlistment you might just want to give up now

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going back to my doctor on Tuesday to see if he can provide me with further information on the surgery and on my current state.
Thanks again for the advice,
MG
