    Prenatal Care

My Son's stationed in Cherry Point and currently deployed to Afghanistan. He'll miss the birth of his first child. His wife is staying with family in AZ and she's having a heck of a time trying to see a doctor.

What's her best course of action?

Call her congressman. Be sure to document attempts, who she talked to, etc. Having a congressional staff member call the VA will incite response. Be sure she is actually having trouble and potential health risk to mother and baby. If not, she won't have silver bullets for next crisis. Good luck.

She is covered under Tricare, so there should be a prenatal doctor that accepts Tricare. Make sure she specifies Tricare and not Obamacare ....

    Good Morning, cwi530,

There could be a multitude of reasons for her issues. Here are a few things to check if she hasn't already.

    1. Is she registered in DEERS? This is the first step to accessing TriCare.

    2. If she moved, did she update her address in DEERS and transfer her TriCare to the correct region?

    3. Is she on TriCare Prime or Standard? If she is on Prime and near a military base, she may be required to use the Military Treatment facility. She would also be assigned a Primary Care Manager who will manage her care and provide referrals. If she is on Standard, has she used the TriCare website to locate a doctor who takes TriCare?

    4. Has she called her TriCare provider to explain her difficulties? AZ is part of TriCare West which is served by United Healthcare.

    5. Has she spoke to the FRO for her husband's unit? The FRO wouldn't actually be able to fix any issues with TriCare, but he or she is there as a resource and support to family members.

Thank you for the info. I will pass it on.

She was finally able to see a doctor and had a sonogram. Baby's doing fine.

Don't know the details but my Son sent us a message saying he might be back before the baby's born...We can only hope.
