Alex will be sooooorrrrrrreeeeeee! As you were. Actually, he should be very proud. I remember my first day there. I thought "What am I doing here?!" I know you are a proud father.

Congrats Proud Dad.
Keep us posted on his progress.
Couple of things to remember.
Some of his first letters may not be that positive but do not fret.
Once the initial shock is over all will be well.
Always keep your letters positive.

gkmoz, you don't think for an instant that I was serious about being sorry, do you? You should read between the lines...and if gas cost less, I'd have a better chance to attend his graduation. Are you going?

Karl. I picked up my grandson Friday was on PI for 3 days and had a great time with the DI and Marines when they found out I was 1st Bn. 52 years ago. Now you need to go on face book and join Parents of Parris Island Support Group (PPI) They go out and get photo of the rec. Once he is picked up a plt. you can join that site and talk with other parents. Now that my grandson is off PI I am going to stay on and try to help .If I can help send me an email Ken Hendry

You should also join marinefamilynetwork.com (free). You can join a group of parents from other recruits in his platoon and keep track of their training schedule. Lots of info on family day and graduation schedule of events. That site helped me plan my visit to PI couple summers ago. Members get discounts at local hotels (recommend the Best Western Sea Island Resort in the historic district of old Beaufort).

Well got the call at 0030 that he arrived safely at Parris Island, He never said a word about enlisting till he told me a week before his 18th birthday that he was enlisting in the Marine Corps. Now I am a Very Proud Father of a Marine Recruit.
