Hey Ed!,
Just letting you know I tried to respond to your message, but it wasn't able to be delivered due to an error message that your mailbox is not accepting new messages. Seems like you need to do some housecleaning and clear out some old messages. Just letting you know!!!

Marine Mom,
Our son volunteered for Recon at the first opportunity during SOI. He was assured he'd get it, but guess what? Recon was already filled with Contract Marines, so, he went where he was needed. 0311 is not a bad deal at all. Just keep the Semper Gumby motto up front and you and he will be fine. Best of luck to him for getting a slot at MART.

Thanks for the positive feedback! My son and I are both learning to go with the flow... we should know in a week or two which weapons system he will be training in after "the split" in ITB. Pretty soon I'll have some new research to do since I know very little about any of these MOSs. Best of luck to your son!! Semper Fi!

Once he is done with SOI and gets to his first unit, he will be able to put in an application for a Recon tryout, aka hell week. If he makes it through that and the rest of the training (forget off the top of my head how long it is) then he will be gain the mos for recon. They are always accepting people, recon right now is understaffed. Be advised though, that the wash out rate is in the 80-90% range, so its no picnic. If he doesn't make it he will go back to his original MOS. We don't get many mos allocations for recon for whatever reason but I know they are still under 100% full.

Thanks for the feedback!! I just found out yesterday that my son has successfully made it through "the split" at ITB and will be training under the 0331 Machine Gunner MOS. He seems happy about it... and if he is happy, I am happy! I keep hearing in one of my facebook groups how hard this MOS is... but my son is tough, and I know he can rise to the challenge. He gets to come home for 10 days at Christmas... and I am a VERY exicted Mom in regards to that!!! Happy Holidays everyone and enjoy your families!!! <3
