A long road, with many questions.

Hello ( Marines ) future brothers and sisters in arms.

My name is James Russell Cornelius, I am currently twenty-two years old. Let me just begin with telling a bit of my story.

I am ultimately changing my life in every possible to become a better person. It is a long path, and one that started off rough even when I was young. But I have finally decided that I want to become part of the Few and the Proud.

Not only do I want to be a Marine, but I want to do so in becoming a Commissioned Officer as well. I know the path to becoming a Marine alone is a challenge, let alone adding the goal of becoming at least a 1st Lieutenant.

Right now I have being doing some work-outs and studying my mind so I can increase my chances at getting the best results physically and mentally.

I still have to complete the ASVAB and then the SAT/ACT because I have started considering taking the NROTC path to help me get to where I would like to be.

In my Middle School and High School years I was not interested in JROCT or the Military like I am now, although I wish I had. But now I am trying to fix that and I can personally say even though my life has been rough, it hasn't b the worst and I still have intelligence and determination on my side.

So, to the real reasoning for my post. Knowing that I want to do all I can to prepare myself physically and mentally, to gain all chances to succeed in the Marine Corps, and to become the best that I can.

Does anyone have in advice on the best paths to take?

I have navigated through the site trying to find all that I can about boot camp, tips for the Marine Corps, and even what information I found about the NROTC and scholarship. But I still feel like I am lacking something.

I still feel as though I don't know everything and I would like to know everything I can.

What's the best tips for getting the NROTC Scholarship ?,

Increasing my chances to receive the scholarship?

What could disqualify me from getting the Scholarship or NROTC Education?

What can I do to prepare my body for NROTC and the Marine Corps?

What can I do to become a Commissioned Officer for the Marine Corps?

    Am I missing any details?

If anyone would be willing to help me I would be so grateful.

I have tried to find all I can alone, but I feel like I need to seek guidance from someone who can help me become the man I want to be.

Or at least get me pointed in the right direction.

    In advance, Thank you.

""Perhaps overly long and wordy" "???
Your sounding like a politician working for
    our votes...

    Your answer's in here "Grasshopper"

    Maintain your values 1.
Talk to a Marine Recruiter 2.
Read Faster here in Leatherneck. 3.
    (particularly Ask a Marine )
    points on andin your question
have been asked and answered ALREADY....

    now screw.

That's alot of commentary and questions in one post.

    Although we do or best to answer all of your questions and guide you on your way to earning " The Title ", short answer to all of this is;

Visit a Marine Corps Recruiter and ask away.

    Best of luck to you.

Rocky has a Better way with words....
He's been voted most liked Marine on the site.

    He's "PeopleFriendly"
    - Smooth, and makes you feel at home....

    BE ADVISED...

Don't sign anything your first couple trips
when you see the recruiter,,, CHUCKLE...

We'll help as much as we can on here.
But - you are the one who'll suffer IF you
    take some ill advised shortcuts...

Be advised also , the fewer People being OFFERED
the chance to SERVE in the MarineCorps,
Means they can "Raise the Bar" that much higher.
Standards of MY DAY- won't cut it today...
AND todays standards may be lower than Tomorrows...

    Good Luck Lad.
    Now Screw

Your first step should be to visit a recruiter. They will be able to answer most of your questions and put you in contact with the local Officer Selection Officer (OSO) who can explain commissioning options and how to prepare for them.

Apply to a HBCU(Historically Black College/University). The Marine Corps has a specified amount of money they give out for the scholarship. But they draw from a separate pot of money for HBCU's. This is what the XO said to me during my interview for the NROTC scholarship. I declined and thought i wouldnt change my college choices. My friend (i had better numbers than him) applied to a HBCU and he got the scholarship and i didnt. He's 1 year into the program and I'm half a year in my first enlistment.
