Anyone on here from Platoon 3084 - graduation date: Nov. 20, 1973?
    Senior DI: SSGT. E.A. Smith
    DI: GySGT Newell
    DI: SSGT Bailey
    DI: Sgt Meyer

Yes - I was in that platoon.
It might seem funny to say this about a DI, but SSgt Smith had real class. Incredible attention to detail, sharp as they come, and not to be trifled with. You might not remember, but on our graduation day he was wearing GySgt stripes. I felt really good for him - felt like we all helped him earn that stripe. We took first in the series in drill, and maybe first at the rifle range too, not sure about that one. I remember our guide went unk at the range. Rough break. I remember the other three DI's perfectly. Remember a Pvt named Timmons told Meyer to GTH only a couple weeks into phase 1 - Meyer flipped and screamed git him outa here...think it was the guide and a couple of others that led Timmons away somewhere. He wound up in moto plt to do squat thrusts in the mud pit for a couple of weeks. Think he just got pushed back to a later grad date with a series just behind us. We also had someone cut his wrist one of the first few days we were there - Processing days, before we started our T days. We were all getting into our racks and he walked out to the middle of the squad bay and cut one of his wrists. DI's just laughed at him, told the mouse to go get some of the other DI's so they could laugh at him too. He was standing there making a pool of blood on the floor and said What do I do now sir? The DI (can't remember which one) just laughed loud and said What do you do? You're going to die Private! The DI's knew it wasn't a bad cut, so they were just having fun. That pvt didn't get his wish, he was kept in, just moved back to the series behind us. Saw him a few days later marching in a platoon with a bandage on his wrists. Might have been both wrists, can't remember for sure. Later that night, or the next day, the DI's told us how to do it right. They said take your razor blade and start at the inside of the elbow and run it down to the wrist, opening up the vein lengthwise.....funny guys I swear. Lots more memories.
