Thumbs up Paris Island SC 6-26-85

    Plt.3068
    SDI SSGT Lazemby
    DI SSGT Hedlund
    DI SGT Samuels
DI SGT Youngblood for first two weeks then transferred?

Was scribe, lesson: never send the platoon to breakfeast late and then say it was SSGT Hedlunds fault for giveing the wrong chow times to type up. What an experience that was. Loved the Marine Corp. Now in the MCL. God Bless the Marines

Zeb's Boat House in Santa Ana was a favorite of mine! I loved the crowds there and you couldn't beat the "Rats" that crawled late at night on the floor of the place! Kims Place II was another favorite there! Keno's Restaurant in Tustin was a great place to eat! Mario was the host there, Linda was the hostess. Vivina was hostess for a long time prior to leaving. Tina worked as a waitress there for many years! In the lounge we had Linda S who was the lovely bartender!

The "Nut" Room in Tustin, Venice, Deserts and beaches a few minutes away, Orange County Raceway, Skiing a couple hours away....celebrites, movie stars and everyone has an angle! Yep. Hollywood sucked alright......

Don't forget Saddleback Inn (where I got my nickname from), a great place for evening entertainment and a place where the Marines would go at night on the weekends. Great bands for a long time until the ownership decided they didn't like Marines and put a piano and other slow entertainment there!

I started smoking in boot camp - everyone went out for a smoke break and I stayed in the barracks ! Screw that, started killing my lungs, then smoked for ten years and quit cold-turkey ! Haven't smoked in over 35 years.

Due to the Vietnam push, I only had 2 weeks of ITR then shipped off to comm school in San Diego. Got a good taste of infantry training prior to going to Vietnam early in 1969 at Camp Pendleton.
