Enlisting into USMC Reserves, 0651 Data Network Specialist Question(s)?

    Hello,

My name is Richard Chmielewski, I currently am a senior in highschool and here recently I have had a major change in my plans of getting into college. My original plan somewhat failed, when I found out that paying for college was going to be a lot harder than expected especially without scholarships. Things happen, and plans change.

Currently I plan to Enlist into the Marine Corps Reserve (I have signed, and my parents have. I am most likely heading to MEPs next week according to my recruiter, so I still have some steps to make). My recruiter says that since I am signing into the Reserves, he will try to get my ship date to end of June or early July. So my plan right now (which I have discussed with him), is to go to boot camp at the end of June. After graduating and having my time of leave at home, I will be sent straight to training so that I will be able to start college in Jan, and preform my duties as a reservist in the Marine Corps.

The catch is, I honestly would prefer a MOS in Military Police, or Infantry (something of that nature.) However, the reserve unit close to my home town and the college I will attend is a Communications Unit. So after discussing with my Recruiter, my MOS will most likely be 0651. I honestly am not to keen on the idea of working on computers and not sure exactly how this MOS will be. While I am college I also plan to work on becoming a officer into the Marines that way I can do Ground Intel. My back up plan incase becoming a officer doesnt work, is to switch my Enlisted MOS and go active. (But I'll deal with that when the time arrives)

Sorry for the life story.. What I am trying to get at is:
My first goal is to be a Marine, I want to be a United States Marine. I might not have the MOS I want, but I only have to preform in this MOS during my reserve duty and I plan on switching out in the future (after college) wether I become a officer or not; considering I have no idea what I will be doing in this MOS, for all I know I might end up liking it once I am in. So I only have a few questions about the field that I will be entering in the future.

1.) What exactly do you do as a 0651? Reserve and active?
2.) Do you personally enjoy this MOS and why?
3.) What is promotions like when you are in the Reserves? Are they slower than if you are active?
4.) If for some reason I cannot become an officer, dont like this MOS, and remain Enlsited, how difficult would it be to change my MOS to Military Police and continue my career?
Any other adivce or information would be great! No matter what I am still enlisting and most likely will go into this field, I would just like a more general idea of what I will be doing.

If you took the time to read this, and reply, Thank you. I look forward to the day that I earn the title so many of you have earned in the years before me!
