Veterans Day...originating on this date in 1919 on the first anniversary of the end of World War. In 1954, it's name was changed to Veterans Day, and its scope widened to honor veterans from all eras. Across the country, there are 21.5 million military veterans. About 1 percent of the American population is on active military duty, compared with 9 percent of Americans who were in uniform in World War II. 1/7th of America's homeless population are veterans. Approximately 25% of veterans have a service connected disability. AND 18+ VETERANS COMMIT SUICIDE EVERYDAY!! Honor and salute our veterans, our military, and our country today and everyday. They are the true and brave that fight for our rights and defend our freedom...but are often left with their own loss...of life, of hope, or will.
Often it is heard from Combat Veterans that “At least the fallen are at peace”.
Why is there so much hopelessness and depression among the most brave among us? Simply put, they have seen and experienced horrors that are at the extreme edge of human tolerances.
Civilians live their entire lives by enlarge never even imagining the trauma and horror of a Combat Warrior. Most will relive their war over and over for the rest of their lives. The Nightmare that never ends.
Being a Vietnam Combat Veteran, my generation is quickly becoming the older generation of warriors and the ones who have suffered for decades.
Without hope there is no life.
Help bring hope, love and peace into the lives of veterans around you, not only this Veterans day but every day. They have given and continue to give so much. Can you give some back?
