Origin of OORAH
Im trying to find the origin of OORAH, I heard that it was Hebrew for "Awaken"
I was wondering if anyone could verify that.

I asked this same question or made a comment with OOORAH...!!!! I wish I could remeber who asked me what I thought that it meant and where he is. He replied after a couple of posting with. During the second world war when a submarine would go to the surface it would send out a warning. (I don't remeber which side German or American) anyway the horn sounded like an old fashioned OOHGA OOOHGA horn. The MArine Corps addapted this or atleast some adapted this as a motivational yell.

If I remember correctly there was something on the History channel where they covered this. They also covered Gung Ho among other things. Don't remember what OORAH stood for though. I just hope it doesn't turn into the Army's HOOAH. They say it after every sentence. Drives me nuts.

I tend to believe the Recon origin of Ohhrah.
As far as Hooah, they use it more as a "Do you understand what I'm trying to tell you?".
"Now yu'll know yur not suppose to shoot each other, hooah?"
I don't think they're advanced enough for a battle cry.

Ps 57:8
Awake, my soul!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
that word in Hebrew is "Uwraah"
from
`uwr (oor); a primitive root meaning through the idea of opening the eyes; to wake (literally or figuratively):
