Has anybody been in this situation?

I want to enlist... first part that a lot of people have been through. However, my parents (when I told them) had begun to yell and curse me out over how I'm being stupid throwing my life away. Only idiots join the military through enlistment and so on and so forth. They eventually threatened to disown me if I don't give up this "idiotic" dream and they won't pay for college. Now I am faced with the choice of either enlisting or going to college. I can't wait through college then enlist because the wait will be absolutely horrible. I am wondering if anybody else has been through this situation and how did they overcome it? I am going to enlist no doubt about it in my mind, but how has anybody overcome this huge bump?

You grow a pair and do what you want. You realize if you serve a 4 year contract you'll rate the post 9/11 GI Bill right?
