Marines Rumored Among Casualties Along Side Ambassador

I'm hearing from other Marines through the grape vine that the other 2 casualties along side the Ambassador were both Marines.

    Can anyone confirm this?

    CNN.

About 50 U.S. Marines from a rapid reaction force headed to Libya after the attack, U.S. officials said Wednesday.

Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif blamed the violence on people loyal to deposed dictator Gadhafi.

Consulate security staff opened fire after they heard gunfire outside the mission, al-Sharif said.

"This led to more anger, and this is when the consulate was stormed," he said. "Criminals managed to get in and they burned and ransacked the consulate."

The consulate was badly damaged and was being looted Wednesday, said a contractor working at the mission, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

He said he saw the bodies of all four Americans on the street Wednesday morning.

CBS and Gawker are now both reporting that

"Al-Sharef said two U.S. Marines sent to Benghazi when the clash erupted were shot and killed by the well-armed protesters."

I am hearing different, think it is too soon to tell, but the NOK usually know the right scoop before the media does. Local news are reporting from the NOK that one of the KIA was a former SEAL, now working for DoS.

Makes sense that it was a DoS employee and not a few Marines. But, again it is too soon to know for sure.

By M. Alex Johnson, NBC News

New in this version: Identity of fourth victim confirmed.

Updated at 5:57 p.m. ET: A former Navy SEAL killed in an attack this week on a U.S. consulate in Libya was described Thursday as a highly trained marksman and security expert who "lived life to the fullest."

NBC stations WHDH of Boston and KNSD of San Diego contributed to this report.

The man, identified by U.S. officials and family member as Glen Doherty, 42, a native of Winchester, Mass., was working as a security specialist for the U.S. government when militants attacked the U.S. Consulate in the Libyan city of Benghazi on Tuesday night. He and three other Americans were killed in the attack, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, and Sean Smith, an information management officer.

Defense officials and family members speaking to NBC News late Thursday confirmed that a second former SEAL, identified as Tyrone Woods, 41, also was killed.

Rocky's got it -- It was two former SEALs working for DoS.

Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods were former Navy SEAL commandos working as diplomatic security officers.
A buddy of mine in DoS is crushed by this, he knew them both.

    RIP, SEALs
