Up to date information of Recon contracts in a peace time Marine Corps.
Is it still possible to get a contract to go directly to BRC after SOI? I understand everything is becoming harder with the cutbacks. I am planning on enlisting in a little over a year giving me time to get into excellent shape (already started) and finish my degree. I have heard MARSOC takes years of experience so I am interesting in other high speed stuff with intense training that is likely to see combat deployments. Any advice/information/opinions is appreciated. Any information on other SOF or ANGLICO and similar opportunities would be great as well. Any general information you think I should know is appreciated.
Just to note I have read the Recon/MARSOC sticky. I'm just looking for additional and up to date info.

Realistically, a year from now any information you get 'now' is going to be stale as dishwater. Things change at such a rapid pace that no one will be able to give you a good answer, because no one really knows. There are no 'crystal balls' that can see that far ahead I'm afraid.
I weep for what this country is becoming, and fear for my children and grandchildren's future if any more democrats gain national office. We lose more and more freedoms every single day to creeping nannystatism and those who vote for Democrats only want to increase that. Anyone voting for a 'dem' is someone who likely wants to take everything YOU have worked for and mortgage your kids future as well.

Well, I suspected that. Wishful thinking on my part I guess. Thank you for the info.

From what I understand they are still giving recon contracts but they are few and far between but dont expect them to be still doing that the first ones that get cut are snipers and recon what good are they in a time of peace?.. or at least in a time when we will not be directly engaged in war.
