Jarhead?

I am so sorry if this question has already been answered. I tried search and google but could not get a definitive answer. My young son is making a birthday card for a family friend who is a retired marine. He wants to decorate it with Marine slogans, etc. I suggested Semper Fi, Halls of Montezuma, Tripoli, November 10, 1775. And he wanted to try out his artistic skills drawing a uniform with a jar instead of a head. My question is: Is this insulting? He has tremendous respect for this individual and doesn't want to insult him at all. But I can't tell if doing something like that is in poor taste. Can anyone help us? Thanks very much!
