    Captain Michael Quin

The U.S. Department of Defense announced that a Purcellville resident was among the Marines killed in the collision of two helicopters during a training exercise in Arizona on Feb 22nd 2012.

Capt. Michael M. Quin, 28, was a 2002 graduate of Loudoun Valley High School and a 2006 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. A UH-1 Huey helicopter pilot, he was assigned to a Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron, HMLA 469, based at Camp Pendleton, CA.

The unit was training for a deployment to Afghanistan when a AH-1W Cobra and a Huey collided and crashed near the Chocolate Mountains. The helicopters were in a remote area of the 1.2 million-acre Yuma Training Range Complex as part of a two-week training called "Scorpion Fire" that involved a squadron of about 450 troops.

I went out there with my for his return. There were fire trucks and such on the overpasses along the route. The news helicopter followed the procession from Leesburg. The officer they showed in the first video is a guy I went to high school with. Sure wasn't expecting to see him on TV.
