    red tab on 8-point covers

One of my buddies who just graduated mos school got sent to Pendleton with H&S company as a 1341, and he was telling me about a red tab that his company wears on their covers. Does anyone know what this means? I know he said that he's with a non-deployable unit so would that be it?

    Thanks gents!

ShoreParty Bn/ Landing Support / Logistics Support

The "names" been changed in the past and probibly will be changed again in the future... BUT the job has always been the same...

    He'll find he's been "Snowed" about being in a NON-Deployable unit...*BIG TIME*

His unit might be non-deploy-able but he sure will be.

I was with 3rd Shore Party in Nam...
I know I was deployed.. lol
    BTW
1341 is a heavy equipment mechanic... he will definitely be deployed..
The Red patches came about in WW2, front line Marines were staying behind to help on the beach when they should have been on the lines... hence the red patch to signify Shore Party members..

Ask him if he took his Engineers test yet, cause everyone who goes to a mos of 1341 must take the engineers test and see how well he did.,

I took mine and did real well ..

The red patch also continues to be worn by Marines assigned to the Landing Support Detachments or Transportation Support Detachments assigned to MEU CLBs (formerly known as MSSGs).
