When you get issued sea bags in boot camp, there are no wheels on them.

Possibly talking about the val pack issued to SNCO's and officers....

The question of what to take is easy. Take all your issued items. Don't put any laundry soap, mouth wash, foot powder, em-nu or anything else that I guarantee with break open and make a real mess inside the sea bag. You have to be pretty rough and do a lot of bouncing to get it packed and then baggage handlers at the airport aint so gentle.

You do want to pack it in stages and ensure it is as tightly packed as possible during each layer. You should be able to get everything that isn't going in the hanging bag in one sea bag with room to spare.

Your ditty bag should have toiletries, your orders, some reading material. and some clean socks and underwear. If Lord help ya the airline loses your luggage and you are forced to check in wearing civvies you'll not be gigged for it.

    Packing seabag's

I doubt if they're "taught" at Boot Camp, as our's left with 2 heavy, packed seabag's, as well as the "Body bag" and "ditty bag". When he re-packed for MCT, he got it down to one seabag, plus his "ditty".

To any new Marine or new Marine parent reading this. If you can, get here to MCT a day early so you can get your pass, and find the building's you'll need to be at. The Marine's who issued our pass are so glad we did, telling us it helped us to avoid trying to get one for Family Day and Graduation.

It's fairly "spartan", not as much for us "civvie's" as there was on the Island. A lot of numbered building's, so you pretty much have to drive and look.

    Place to eat!

If you enjoy authentic, and I do mean authentic Mexican food, Mi Cabana (across from Walmart) is g-r-e-a-t! The b-e-s-t I've had since living in Nuevo Loredo (when it was safe, about 40 year's ago). Lamb, Chicken, Beef, Tilapia, about everything but Goat! If you order the "Queen Tilapia, be prepared to have her looking at you when it's served! Head and all!
